View Full Version : It Might Have Taken 45 Years, but Dominos Pizza Finally Admits It Wasn't Very Good

In New Ads for Dominos Pizza, they admit their pizza tastes like cardboard with ketchup on it. :barf:
Has anybody tried the "new" pizza? Is it good or does it still stink?
spunkygirl 01-17-2010, 07:49 PM *shrugs* I never thought they were as bad as some made it out to be. I've had bad pizza and they'd be at the bottom of the really bad
JamesG 01-17-2010, 08:09 PM Haven't had Domino's in a while. A few years ago a Papa John's opened near me so I've had that and liked it better than Domino's.
I still prefer "real pizza" so I very rarely get Domino's / Papa John's.

I actually like vodka sauce pizza the best which most people I know don't like or never have had it before.
Very few pizzerias near me make it regularly and usually I have to have it custom-ordered and with a full pie; can't order individual slices.

It's funny you should say that, because I just had Vodka sauce pizza yesterday

Great to see I'm not the only one who likes it.
My area it's not a hot item so they don't make it daily.
Family Ties Forever! 01-17-2010, 09:52 PM I was never a fan of Domino's pizza. It was ok. It's better than Papa Johns. Now if you want to talk about really bad pizza try Mazzio's pizza. Their pizza is so nasty!
I like Pizza Hut pizza.
Adamantium 01-17-2010, 11:08 PM I’ve always liked Dominos pizza and recently had one and it was terrible. I figured it was a one time thing, but then I read this. I tell you what I won’t buy another pizza from Dominos again. It was way too much garlic on it. I had garlic breath for hours afterwards and I hate garlic. This was really, really bad.
I honestly didn’t know people didn’t like Dominos before. This is all news to me.
So I must once again say goodbye to something I love. This world is getting worse all the time. (Yes I made that statement over pizza.)

LOL that was during their heyday. The Noid rocked!
catlover79 01-18-2010, 01:35 AM I'm surprised Solomon hasn't chimed in on this thread yet. I always enjoyed Domino's myself (especially the thin crust), but haven't had it in years.
LuLu Rogers 01-18-2010, 01:46 AM We actually got Domino's for supper tonight. I loved the new pizza! It's not as good as Papa John's to me, but I really enjoyed it. The crust has a nice garlic bread taste and the sauce is much better too.
If you haven't tried it, I would at least give it a chance.
JamesG 01-18-2010, 01:59 AM In case anyone doesn't know.. as of December 27, 2009 Domino's changed their pizza recipe.
The new cheese is claimed to be made from 100% real shredded mozzarella (rather than diced), and it is also flavored with a touch of provolone.
The sauce is said to be bolder with herbs and a kick of red pepper.
The new crust is seasoned with garlic and has butter added to it.
sunshinefizzy 01-18-2010, 03:48 PM I love pizza to death and Domino's was always one of my favs, then and now. So obviously I never thought it was bad before however I really love their crust now as I am a huge garlic fan.
comedyfreak 01-19-2010, 09:17 AM I haven't had a Domino's pizza in years. I recently tried a Straw Hat Pizza and it was awful I'll never go back.

Straw Hat Pizza? I never heard of it - is it just in California?

Well him and Bad Andy did ****-up the Domino's Pizzas.
I always preferred local Pizza Parlors over Pizza Chains.
JamesG 01-19-2010, 04:07 PM Straw Hat Pizza? I never heard of it - is it just in California?
Yeah, it is based in California.
On their website I see they are branching out. They are in Cali., Nevada, and Oregon. There's one coming in Arkansas and one on the East Coast in New Jersey.

OK - thanks.
ZeldaGilroy 01-19-2010, 11:03 PM I ordered Domino's tonight for the first time in ages. I never liked their pizza, but this thread had me wanting to try the new recipe. :)
It was good. I usually order Godfathers and I think Godfathers is better, but Domino's is MUCH cheaper and it was decent pizza. I'd order it again.
Courtnee 01-19-2010, 11:28 PM I didn't think Domino's was all that bad, haha. But it def tastes different now.

Yeah, I just tried it tonight for the first time in ages because I wanted to see how different it was. WOOOO, and is it strong on the garlic!! I like a little bit of garlic on my pizza but not THAT much. It's ok, but I definitely think it was better before.
Big C 01-27-2010, 09:32 PM I liked the old version.
I've yet to try the new version.
EmoJoe 01-27-2010, 10:50 PM Domino's is decent for 'fake' pizza. it's great when it's like 10PM and you want pizza and they're the only place open.
haven't tried the new one yet.

Closest I came to a Domino's pizza is playing the Yo! Noid videogame.
And even that sucked.
catlover79 01-28-2010, 02:32 AM ^ I remember that.
Brian Damage 02-05-2010, 09:49 AM All jokes aside, Domino's Pizza issued the news this week -- just a few days before the Super Bowl, mind you -- that its pizza is the best when compared to fellow mega-chains Papa John's and Pizza Hut.
"We listened to our consumers. They told us to change...so we did. Now, they've told us we're better than we used to be -- and better than our competition. We think that's really cool," said President of Domino's USA, Patrick Doyle, in a press release.
The "changed" pizza Doyle refers to has been branded as "inspired" by the company and "features new sauce, cheese and garlic-seasoned crust."
(Note from Ian: That crust leaves this strange, sandy material on your hands. Is it edible? I sure as hell hope so....)
Gushy, canned quotes from executives aside, the company states it conducted "an independent, blind taste test of nearly 1,800 random pizza consumers from eight U.S. markets.
"In head-to-head comparisons, participants picked each of the Domino's pizzas as tasting better than both Papa John's and Pizza Hut by a wide margin."
Details about the study are unimportant here. Who's got time to fliffer-fluffer over consumer statistics and sample groups when there's pizza to be eaten? OMG, I call the last slice!
Now then, since Super Bowl Sunday is pretty much the pizza-delivery holiday of the year, the timing of this Domino's press release and study is pretty dubious, but we all knew that going into this, didn't we? Domino's officials say they expect to deliver 9 million slices (or 1,125,000 8-slice pizzas) on Super Bowl Sunday.
A press release from Domino's states:
Surrounded by this excitement, Domino's still has even more to look forward to as the company approaches the kickoff of its biggest night on the calendar this Sunday. "Our stores and team members always look forward to the big game, and get about as amped up as the players themselves," said Russell Weiner, Domino's Chief Marketing Officer. "With the momentum created by our new pizza and beating our two national competitors, this is sure to be our biggest game day yet - and we couldn't be more excited to deliver over 9 million slices of pizza this Sunday."
But as experienced consumers already know-- the preferred way to choose a mega pizza chain is by its marketing.

Torgo 02-11-2010, 12:40 PM Back during our D&D session in the 80's we lived on Domino's...but that's because was the cheapest pizza...
