I've recently been watching episodes from seasons 5 & 6 that I got on dv-r(taped from Nick at Nite and TVLand), and had forgotten that the Hartleys moved into a new apartment in the final season (1977-78). They're in the same building, but now on the top floor with a nicer view. From what I have heard, Bob thought that season 5 would be his last, but was urged back by CBS for one more season. I wonder why they would change their apartment setting if this was clearly their last season?

I'd so love to see Seasons 5 & 6. I just wish Fox would get on the stick and put them on DVD (along with the remaining seasons of Newhart). :mad:

I'm with you there! I keep hoping that they will finish the series. I also love "Newhart", but I wished they finished TBNS releases before starting "Newhart".:confused:

Doesn't season 6 include an episode where the landlord is giving the Hartley's a hard time with their deposit? I believe he is the same guy who played the comic, Manny Silver, in an episode of the first season of "Newhart". I believe his name is Bobby Ramsen. I thought he was great!:lol:

Yes! LOL that guy was hilarious- he always played some kind of smarmy agent or something on alot of '70s shows. He was playing their landlord on the very last episode where Bob decided to take a professorial job in Oregon. They were trying to get their security deposit back and the landlord kept finding little things all throughout the apartment, acting VERY dramatic with every little stain and blemish. The audience was laughing hysterically at the entire bit (even though the end of the show was, of course, kind of sad). Great character. If that hadn't been the last episode, they would have definitely brought him back again.

The last episode is out on VHS (if you can find it, and still have a VCR that works). It's on a 6-VHS set called "The Very Best of the Bob Newhart Show". Each video contains 2 episodes from each season, and "Happy Trails to You" is on video #6.

A friend of mine bought one of those DVD sets that someone recorded from the current channel with the TBNS contract. Some were missing, and of course they cut things to make room for more commercials. She said that she WILL buy the commercial ones, IF and WHEN Fox decides to release them!
