If you were to create your own musical based on GI and were doing it with the songs of only one group or artist (as they do with some musicals today like "Mamma Mia," which used Abba), whom would you choose? I know this is the age of variety with the ipod but think back to "Greatest Hits" CDs.

If you'd like to explain further, which songs can you picture in what kinds of scenes?

The Beatles! The plot could even be similar to that of the actual musical.

New theme song: "Help!"

Skipper's song about his naval past: "Yellow Submarine"

A romantic duet for the Howells: "Money Can't Buy Me Love"

Gilligan runs away: "Nowhere Man"

The Professor has to solve a problem: "We Can Work It Out"

Ginger tries to win the Professor's notice: "Baby, You Can Drive My Car"

Mary Ann - MAG, anyone? "I Want to Hold Your Hand"

And the big finale: "All You Need Is Love"

Or how about ABBA?

The fateful voyage begins - "Happy Hawaii"

The Skipper bemoans the curse of his first mate - "Why Did It Have to Be Me?"

The Professor constantly experiments - "I Wonder"

Gilligan rather seems to like the island - "Sitting in the Palm Tree"

What do the Howells miss? - "Money, Money, Money"

What does Mary Ann miss? - "Mamma Mia"

What does Ginger miss? - "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)"

Here come the headhunters! - "Under Attack"

But the castaways enchant them with their band - "Thank You for the Music"

They still get left behind - "So Long"

And the finale - "SOS!"

And hey, Ginger never had a dream sequence! How about "When I Kissed the Teacher"

But our heroes win

I vote for Madonna--think about it, there are lots of possibilities--but I picture only the girls singing. You'd have to abandon some of the "Puritan Island" versions though!

*Just pictured Mrs. Howell singing "Material Girl" and is now laughing*

Very minor musical spoiler -

This isn't a Madonna song, but how about ending Act I with a Ginger dream sequence to "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls? It even (sort of) fits the actual plot of the musical, which has a hurricane at the end of Act I.
