Mike was a total pompous and rude ass towards Gloria in that episode. It showed that she was the smart one and Mike was the idiot. The he treated like she was a child being shoved off into the room. I could not stand Mike in that episode.

There were several times when Mike acted that way. I always hated those episodes. I don't know what made him think he was so smart. Okay, he was in college... Big deal.

Well, personally I think one of the appeals of the show was that everyone was portrayed as a human being; no one was perfect. Yes, Mike could be pompous and overbearing, but he could also be caring and sympathetic and generous.

I think it's a mistake to take a few episodes and extrapolate too much from them. Keep in mind the series as a whole before jumping to conclusions.

I DETESTED the Mike character (not much of a RR fan either)....to me he was always a loud mouthed know it all! If he was such a smart guy then he would have got off his lazy ass and worked while he went to school! That is one of the biggest things that annoyed me the most about him...HE WAS LAZY! He was a mooch who did'nt contribute anything to the household. His excuse was he would pay Archie back....please! He owed him far more then he would ever be able to repay! Like that time he wanted to donate all that $500 or how ever much it was to his political canidate instead of handing Archie at least half of it and then he couldn't see why Archie was ticked? And worst of all just as any liberal, he made it obvious that he was ALWAYS right and Archie was ALWAYS wrong! He would gloat every time he got the best of Archie, which we all know that was most of the time.
The only time I recall being able to tolerate him was in the episode where Edith's cross-dressing friend got killed and she lost her faith. He surprised me in how he...the atheist, brought her through with the way he explained how maybe we arn't supposed to understand it all once.
I liked absolutely nothing about him and Gloria was his puppet most of the time. She grew up in a christian home and meets and marries Mike and all of a sudden she's an atheist and believes in his B.S about an overcrowded world and yada yada...B.S, B.S. He accused Archie racism and bigotry, well he was a reverse rascist as far as I'm concerned.
