View Full Version : Has Shout! Factory given up on us?
matt77b 01-05-2010, 04:44 PM Shout! Factory released one 4-DVD set of O&H in 2007, another set in 2008 plus the DVD of 4 Christmas episodes in 2008, but nothing in '09, and I haven't heard anything about any forthcoming O&H releases from them. I seem to remember reading an interview with one of Rick's twin sons recently where he said they were going to do one 4-DVD set per year. I would hate to think that S!F has given up on us since they were the only company sticking to O&H releases. (Mill Creek essentially did just that one set--albeit a wonderful 100-ep set--their other releases were shorter versions of that set, and Alpha very rarely releases an episode that's not already on the Mill Creek or S!F sets.) I know some people criticized S!F for releasing the abridged-for-syndication episodes, but I for one really enjoyed their releases all the same.
Any thoughts or news on this? Maybe someone from S!F reads this board?

I am hoping that with the newly announced Shout Factory online sale only site for abandoned series, there still could be some hope for more O&H. I don't know how long Shout's business relationship with the estate was for though.....Nothing personal regarding the Nelson estate, but I contacted their lawyer rep regarding a serious business proposal to possible license the short lived "Ozzie's Girls" series, I can only say I was treated extremely unprofessionally....and I was not some kid with a crazy proposal, It dealt with many serious $$$ involved...I have worked in the TV industry for 30 straight years and again was treated very unprofessionally.
MickeyMac 01-05-2010, 06:21 PM I hope Shout Factory dosent turn into all the rest where they start a series, but never finish it.
TeeVeeCloset 01-05-2010, 07:48 PM I hope Shout Factory dosent turn into all the rest where they start a series, but never finish it.
That was the whole point of my above post, Shout Factory recently started a online only sale site for abondoned series like My Two Dads, Room 222, The Bill Cosby Show, Ironsides and many more! Many posters here (including myself) pestered, begged, etc for them to do this and they LISTENED!
BTW...O&H was never released in season sets by Shout, so let's not accuse them of something they never ever even did.....all their releases were complilation sets, edited yes.....but the world of O&H has always not been handled very well, hence that's why the series is in the public domain, it was not looked over with the extreme professionlism and dedication that Ozzie Nelson did when he was alive.
For more info, if interested, please read my above post.
OH Nuts! 01-05-2010, 09:29 PM GOD I hope so! (Mill Creek too) I'm optimistic - Shout! has been just wonderful abt releasing series I thought would never see the light of day - like Room 222, Patty Duke Show, The Paper Chase. So...I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
dlb108 01-06-2010, 12:29 PM I keep checking this site hoping there will be an announcement of a new release. Anyone know who to write to at Shout or Mill Creek? What's our best option?

I don't know what the situation is for Ozzie & Harriet, but in general Shout! Factory's announcenment for how they're handling some series though their online store has me very optomistic about 2010 and the next few years. I hope more classic sit-com titles will see the light of day!
TV_Fan 01-17-2010, 12:41 AM Looks like they don't have anything planned at the moment :http://www.shoutfactory.com/community/2660/thread.aspx#11548. Also, as TeeVeeCloset stated, since they never released this show in season sets it can't relaly be called "unfinished" or "abandoned". I don't know why they aren't releasing anymore sets, maybe sales were just too low. Maybe the Nelson estate wants more money. It's just not known and no one can really say with any certainty it's Shout's fault.
Jude The Obscure 02-09-2010, 12:27 AM Wish would we hear something...and if the show is in the public domain, wish Mill Creek would dig up another 100 episode set :D
matt77b 02-10-2010, 03:56 PM Of the 435 episodes, I wonder just how many are available to companies that aren't getting the episodes from the Nelsons (which Shout! Factory apparently did--even if many of the episodes that they used were the versions prepared for syndication in 1985). Could Mill Creek actually get their hands on enough episodes for another 100-episode set? And if they could, would they consider it worthwhile when their first set is still available and on the market?
