View Full Version : The Stephens' day
abewitchedlife 01-04-2010, 04:56 PM I have been watching Bewitched most of my life (it seems), and have always fantasised about having a life just like Darrin's, but have some questions that I need answers to that I have never really been sure of.
What time did Darrin leave home to go to work?
What were his normal working hours?
What time did he normally arrive home in the evening?
What drink did he have in the evening, was it just a Martini?
I am mostly curious about what his favourite drink consisted of (ingredients)?
I have looked around this site and other bewitched sites eg www.harpiesbizarre.com but not found definitive answers to these questions.
I even have my 9 year old hooked on Bewitched now and we watch the show together with her saying that she is going to live an exact house as 1164 when she is older.
Anybody have any thoughts on these please let me know.
McGillicuddy 01-04-2010, 06:28 PM Well, as far as what time he went to work, and his working hours, I get the idea, it was pretty much 9-5, and he often left at breakfast time.
1) Often the opening scene will have Samantha fixing breakfast, with Tabitha at the table, and Darrin reading the paper, or just coming down and Endora popping in, at which time Darrin will be all to happy to skip breakfast, and take off for work.
2) Samantha would sometimes go into the city for lunch with Darrin (the mortal way), or just stop into see him while shopping.
3) During the Dick York years, when York was unable to appear, the "goings-on" seem to take place during the day and Darrin could be convieniently "at work" explaining his absence.
4) He didn't seem to work on Saturday, as Dick Sargent's Darrin seem to often be going or coming from weekend golfing. (Funny that Dick York's Darrin didn't seem to like golf!)
MickeyMac 01-04-2010, 07:10 PM Not to mention dealing with Endora dropping in, and all of Sam's other relatives.
the truth 01-04-2010, 09:17 PM Any idea what the stars were actually "drinking"? You know it wasn't martinis or bourbon or whatever. Probably just colored water. But boy, did they love their booze. :D
It was like...
Larry: "Darrin, get in here and let's talk about the Peterson account, I'll make you a double scotch."
Darrin: "I can't Larry, I'm still working on my vodka tonic."

In the first season, Darrin mentioned that he was playing golf on Saturday (when Sam asked him to help Marshall Burns learn how to play baseball).
Jude The Obscure 01-05-2010, 03:24 PM Not to mention the episode with MacDonald Carey was totally centered on golf! "Birdies, Bogies, and Baxter" (I may have gotten the title wrong at the moment)
And yea, Bewitched sure was one BOOZY sitcom

Yup, that's the title of the episode! Darrin mentioned he was a good golfer in his college days. Macdonald Carey was just starting off his long run as Dr. Tom Horton on Days of Our Lives at the time he appeared on Bewitched. Not to mention that his DAYS son, Ed Mallory, appeared as Ed Wright in the first season ep, "Remember the Main".

Yes, they sure did down the booze on this show!! They were always talking about martinis, scotch and screwdrivers. But then, that also reflected the times. Sam and Darrin entertained a lot and the booze flowed like water.
