..."LAW & ORDER" will indeed surpass "GUNSMOKE"'s 20 year consecutive run (1955-'75) next season. I believe the network's reasoning is, 'we own the series, and it's a better bet next season than most of the dramas we've scheduled so far...or probably schedule next season'. Who knows? Perhaps Jay Leno will move out of his 10pm(et) corral next season so that "LAW & ORDER" can move back to where it rightfully belongs. "GUNSMOKE" managed to flourish at an earlier time for eight more seasons after it was almost cancelled (as a late Saturday evening tradition) in 1967, while "LAW"-- has not.
