I'd never heard of this case until today. I've just ran a search on YouTube and found a clip of THAT Answering Machine message. OH....MY....GOD. It absolutely scared the hell out of me!!

I've discovered some doco's on this case on YouTube I'm about to watch even though the whole thing is going to creep me out.

Wish me luck! lol

The case was also the topic of a 2009 episode of the E! network series THS Investigates.

Yeah, it's best not to watch anything about EAR/ONS alone and/or in the dark. I learned that lesson the hard way.

The former wrecker driver who last week became the nation's first killer executed in 2018 also admitted to two copycat assaults in the 1970s previously attributed to a Sacramento predator known as the East Area Rapist — a case in which his sisters already suspected him.

Someone is sending anonymous letters to people who live in the area of the attacks. Creepy!

This case has gotten attention lately. Fox 40 are doing a podcast "Exposed" with two episodes already out. New information in this case has been revealed: Hospital workers at American River Hospital had a patient May 30th 1977 which they suspected was EAR. They called law enforcement and they guy bailed. He had most likely a broken shoulder from a fall after getting chased. Later this month a new podcast is being released, some new info is being released to the media next week and in March Michelle Mcnamara's book "I'll be gone in the dark" will be released. Is 2018 the year this guy will be identified?

I remember the EAR/ONS/Golden State Killer profile on UM. Definitely a scary case. I just got done listening to a really good 5 episode review of the case from the podcast Casefile True Crime that they did last year. It had the full recording of the his victim call that was on UM and it was Disturbing. I recommend listening to those if you have an interest in the case, they also use a lot Detective Richard Shelby's Hunting a Psychopath book in recounting the story.

HLN airing Five-Part Series about Golden State Killer (EAR/ONS) called “Unmasking A Killer” Premiering March 18 (http://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2018/02/13/hln-renews-search-for-golden-state-killer-in-unmasking-a-killer-premiering-march-18/)

NEW YORK (February 13, 2018) – HLN intensifies the manhunt for one of the nation’s most prolific uncaught serial killers with a new true crime original series, Unmasking A Killer premiering Sunday, March 18 at 9pm ET/PT, only on HLN. The five-part docuseries profiles the terrifying real-life story of the Golden State Killer – a man responsible for a staggering 51 attacks and 12 murders in California. Investigators have searched for the sadistic criminal for forty years and with recent evidence suggesting he may still be alive, in 2016 the FBI Sacramento announced a national campaign and $50,000 reward to identify the perpetrator – making the investigation hotter than ever.

Through five one-hour episodes, Unmasking A Killer takes an in-depth look at the manhunt, patterns, escape methods and mind games of the Golden State Killer, raising a key to catching the criminal – potentially linking him to another series of unsolved crimes. Interviews with investigators, law enforcement and victims, who have never spoken out publicly, offer information to help solve the mystery of a man who has managed to fly successfully under the radar for decades.

From executive producers Joke Fincioen and Biagio Messina of Joke Productions, Unmasking A Killer is their first HLN production. “This series is unique in that it presents a call to action. The goal has always been for this series to shake loose new tips that will bring the Golden State Killer to justice. HLN offers us the best platform to do so,” said Joke Fincioen.

In addition to the linear premieres on HLN, the series will be available the day after each episode airs on HLN On Demand.
