View Full Version : Subway’s Jared gaining back the weight
Brian Damage 01-02-2010, 09:16 PM Last year Jared Fogel of Subway fame celebrated 10 years of keeping the weight off that he initially lost by eating a diet of not much other than Subway sandwiches. The diet plan made him a household name and sold the country on Subway, but word has it Jared is gaining some weight back.
What do you think?
Courtnee 01-02-2010, 09:59 PM I think that's HILARIOUS.
He did like college tours about weight loss and eating Subway blah blah and now he's big again. LULZ.
Janice 01-02-2010, 11:30 PM I hope he saved those pants.
Mr. Television 01-02-2010, 11:40 PM I think that's HILARIOUS.

He must have been going overboard with those $5 footlongs.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 01-02-2010, 11:48 PM He's still fine.
Schmoopie 01-03-2010, 12:29 AM I always thought that was such a stupid promotion. Well, he kept it off for a while anyway. He doesn't look that bad, though.
Cactus Jack 01-03-2010, 02:27 AM He's doing with the help of aides!
ABlairican Pie 01-03-2010, 03:52 AM No diet is fail-safe. My nutritionist told me not to go on diets, because once you get off of one, you go back to your old ways and gain the weight back. We shouldn't have to think in terms of deprivation. Eat the things you like, but do it in moderation.
If Jared is gaining weight back, that isn't surprising. I don't think that he could last forever on the turkey subs forever. There's more out there than just those things. I remember a couple years ago, when Carnie Wilson lost all that weight with gastric bypass surgery. Then recently, I saw her on the
Tyra show and her weight was coming back. She accepted it, and wanted others to accept it. She was doing what she could to take it back off, but not to expect instant miracles. To lose weight is an uphill climb. You don't keep it off forever, it's a constant struggle. It can, and should be done, and some people are more successful at it than others. There are a lot of factors involved, not everyone is the same. I'm still struggling with it, though I've noticed there are a lot of changes I've seen gradually over what I eat and how much.
80sTrivia 01-03-2010, 09:13 AM Has Subway dropped Jared from their ads because of his weight gain? I haven't seen him in any commercials for a long while...
steevo 01-03-2010, 10:45 AM I also agree that no diet is ever completely successful. I went on slim fast several years ago and I just couldn't have a shake for breakfast and lunch everyday. I just go back to eating my regular food, just in moderation. As for the before and after pics of Jared, he still doesn't look like he did before he went on his subway plan, so hey, its still a plus.
phoebe7165 01-03-2010, 11:58 AM I don't know why some of you think this is so funny. You obviously have never had a weight problem. It's hard for some to keep off weight once they've lost it. Like Greg said, it is a constant struggle. Yeah, alot of people say "Just stop eating". It's not like quitting smoking or stopping drinking. You need to eat. I, myself, have lost quite a bit of weight, only to gain 15 lbs of it back(of which I'm working on).
It is a shame he gained back so much weight though, after being thin for so long. I hope he can get back on track.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any of his commercials lately myself.
MrCleveland 01-03-2010, 04:35 PM Jared stopped going to Subway and went to Subshack!

LuLu Rogers 01-03-2010, 05:05 PM This is what so many people just don't understand.
DIETS DO NOT WORK!!!
Sure, you may lose the weight, but you'll gain it all back and then some. You have to change your lifestyle. It's not necessarily what you eat, but how much you eat. Control your portions and get your ass off the couch and do some exercise! That's how you lose weight and keep it off. It's a psychological struggle more than anything else. You have to teach your brain to think of food as nourishment, not an emotional substitute. I'm going through it now and let me tell you, it's TOUGH and it takes TIME, but it can be done! :)
sunshinefizzy 01-03-2010, 05:05 PM That sucks. Yet, he looks happy and frankly that's all that matters.

You're absolutely right, Lauren. It's behavior modification. I've heard and read many times that 90% of people who lose weight, gain it all back, and like you said, and then some. What many people do (including me :D ) is use light margarine, light salad dressing, nonfat yogurt, diet soda, on and on. The day they reach their goal weight, out goes the healthy products, and the fattening food returns. Like you say, healthy eating needs to become way of life. It is tough but worth it. Lou is seeing a nutritionist now. His meds are causing a weight gain, as is one of mine, so we're going to get going on this. His life literally depends on this. His weight gain ALL went to his belly, which is the worst place for the heart.
catlover79 01-03-2010, 06:30 PM Plus everyone's body is different. What works for person A may not work for person B. In my case, it's difficult for me to keep weight ON - and you don't hear much about the experts talking about THAT problem!

It's funny because he made such an ass out of himself promoting this diet and now he's big again. It's something called irony.
Brian Damage 01-03-2010, 08:47 PM The thing is, Jared really didn't use his fame positively, he was nothing more than a subway schill. Watch the documentary "Super Size Me," Jared is in that film. An obese teen girl who idolizes him for his weight loss asks Jared for some helpful advice. Instead of saying something like take walks, eat sensibly, get involved with a community etc, all he does is tells the girl to eat subway sandwiches. Needless to say the girl left disappointed and in worse shape than before.

I agree. I felt so bad for her when I was watching that. He really acted like an ass when he was talking to those kids. It's like the girl said, "Some of us can't afford to eat Subway every day, and he's telling us that's the only way."

Exactly, right then and there, I lost respect for the guy.

You and me both, I couldn't believe how he acted toward those kids ohno:
spunkygirl 01-03-2010, 09:17 PM Maybe he should try that new "Drive Thru diet" Taco Bell is promoting ;)

God, he was pathetic for saying that. Like Subway is some sort of expert on weight loss and proper nutrition. Bread, even wheat bread, has a lot of carbs, and when you don't exercise and eat in moderation, it goes straight to your stomach and turns to sugar, which becames FAT. No wonder the guy became tubby again. I'm having to remember this every day. A Subway sandwich can be good every other day, but to go on this so-called Jared "diet" completely makes no sense.
I wonder if there's a disclaimer in those ads that says, "The claims of a Jared diet have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Results may vary."

I take it you don't like Taco Bell. I gave up ALOT of fast food, but Taco Bell was one of the very few that I still eat. Not that "Drive Thru diet" though. Like everybody says, it's all about portion control and moderation. You can pretty much eat anything, just not a ton of it!!
As far as Jared's Subway diet, I could never stay on that. Subway's OK, I don't like it enough to have a sub everyday!!
OH Nuts! 01-04-2010, 11:23 PM Totally agree w Lulu. Fad diets do not work. The best way to lose weight AND KEEP IT OFF is thru behavior modification and by gaining a knowledge of foods. A Weight Watchers approach has always worked for me. As long as we're on diets I HATE the Atkin's Diet. I think its for the birds. But to each their own I suppose.

You're right - I am not a Taco Bell fan at all. I'm not a Mexican food fan in general, but I don't think TB counts as authentic Mexican cuisine.

It isn't, Taco Bell is Tex-Mex.
I haven't eaten there in over a decade.

You are so right about that, Monika!! I'll be the first to say that TB isn't authentic Mexican!! I'm not a Mexican food fan in general either. Whenever my sister and I are deciding where to eat, she'll always mention Mexican and I'll always answer Chinese, and she's not much of a fan of Chinese food.

I'm not a big fan of Chinese food either, but my mom makes the BEST chow mein in the world. I want some right now!!

But I still like it!!;)

Not really lol.
You have "real hamburgers" and the fast food ones, just like "real tacos" and Taco Bell's version.
It's the fast food version of Americanized Mexican food.
I haven't had Taco Bell in over a decade. I do want to have it again sometime.

The founder of Taco Bell died today. :( I was going to go grab some chicken burritos and nachos in his memory. What in the world happened to Santa Fe gorditas, I'd like to know.

Conan mentioned about the Taco Bell guy's death in his monologue. He said it wasn't decided if he was going to have a funeral or a funeral supreme!!:p
