Fast National ratings for Friday, December 25, 2009.
People have better things to do on Christmas Night than to watch TV, a fact made manifest by low across-the-board ratings on Friday. No network averaged more than 4.5 million viewers and no network pulled in more than a 1.3 rating in the key demo.
FOX's attempt to stir up excitement with a Christmas marathon of "'Til Death" was looked at with derision, though the marathon still averaged numbers comparable to (or better than) recent marathons of "Dollhouse."
Among adults 18-49, NBC and ABC both did a 1.3 rating to win the night. CBS Was second with a 1.0 rating, followed by the 0.7 rating for FOX and The CW's 0.3 rating.
Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 4.5 million viewers to go with a 2.8 rating/6 share. NBC's 2.4/5 and the 2.2/4 for ABC were close behind. FOX was fourth with a 1.5/3. The CW's 0.6/1 trailed.
NBC's reairing of its "Saturday Night Live" Christmas special won the 8 p.m. hour with a 2.6/5. ABC's "Pirates of the Caribbean" and CBS' repeat of "Ghost Whisperer" had a 2.4/5 for second (advantage ABC in both viewers and the key demo). FOX's two new episodes of "'Til Death" did a 1.4/3 for fourth. The CW's "Smallville" trailed.
