View Full Version : Forget the Ball, Kathy Griffin Drops F-Bomb on New Year's Special
Brian Damage 01-01-2010, 10:21 AM Never-subtle comedian Kathy Griffin stunned her TV co-host Anderson Cooper on CNN's New Year's Eve special by dropping something other than that famous Times Square ball: a certified F-Bomb.
While Griff and Coop were chatting about the top stories of the year and got to Falcon "Balloon Boy" Heene, the funnywoman decided to give viewers a present and fumble the kid's first name. Even though the CNN host had already said "Falcon" to her, Griffin asked: "Fal ... Fu--ing? Falcon? How do you say it?"

If I am not mistaken, I think this is the second year in a row she cursed on live tv
Retro4Life 01-01-2010, 02:29 PM Well, they bounced Charles Rocket off of SNL for saying that (though for some reason they forgave Norm McDonald), so honestly, I think she shouldn't be asked back next year.
I swear at times; we all do. But have some self-control when you are on national TV when kids are watching, geez!

I wouldn't be surprised.
HuntingtonM15 01-01-2010, 04:08 PM This is tame for Kathy.
Chocoholic 01-01-2010, 10:56 PM Doesn't surprise me. I think she is totally classless and unfunny.

How she's managed to stay in show business for so long is a mystery to me. Forget the "D-List", I think she overestimated herself!!!
yankeesrj12 01-02-2010, 01:35 AM Who cares?
Hopefully one day you can swear on television without all the restrictions.
HuntingtonM15 01-02-2010, 01:36 AM As far as comedy goes, Kathy is definitely on the A-list. She performs to sold out theatres whenever she does shows. A lot of comedians can still only get work at small comedy clubs. Until reading her book, I was unaware how many years she struggled at the bottom, being told that women have no place in the comedy world.
People know what Kathy is like, and they still continue to book her. I can't see CNN being too shocked by it.
HuntingtonM15 01-02-2010, 01:37 AM Who cares?
I agree. This might have been newsworthy if it was someone who comes off as prim and proper, but this is Kathy Griffin.
catlover79 01-02-2010, 01:38 AM Well, to each his own. I never have understood her appeal, but that's just my opinion.
Zoneboy 01-02-2010, 02:10 AM Doesn't surprise me. I think she is totally classless and unfunny.
Agreed, Anyone that would pay money to see her is desperate for entertainment. I bet those alleged sold out shows she performs at are padded by people who won or were given free tickets.

I haven't seen her live, but I would and I'm pretty sure I'm not desperate for entertainment...I tried to get tickets the last time she was year about a week before the show, and they were sold out. I don't think they'd be giving away free tickets when there are people willing to pay.

If her shows are being advertised on local radio stations then most likely they'd be giving them away in exchange for promotional consideration.

Well, yeah, a certain amount of them would be given away just like every single concert and live show that is advertised by radio.

I oughta know, I've won enough of them. :D

Not that we're bragging or anything. :joke:
JulieSomoski 01-02-2010, 02:31 AM I love Kathy Griffin. She's one of the funniest comediennes we have left in show business, and being a classless person is just a part of her act. Either you love her or you hate her, but you can't deny how funny she is. I'm sure CNN was expecting something like this. She hasn't been doing the New Years Eve show for CNN year after year for nothing. Obviously she gets the network good ratings, and people tune in because they like her. Not a big deal, IMO.
Zoneboy 01-02-2010, 02:34 AM Not that we're bragging or anything. :joke:
To be honest I've never won tickets to see a comedy act but I've won quite a few to free concerts.
80sTrivia 01-02-2010, 08:37 AM Well, that's definitely Kathy, so there's no surprise there. She's made a career out of pushing the buttons of the establishment, so CNN was more than likely banking on her doing something outrageous...
Pitooey 01-02-2010, 08:44 AM I hate to say this but they knew what they were doing when they booked her. Once I heard that she was going to be one of the host on New Years I stayed away from that channel like the plague.
I've never been much of a fan of Kathy's shtick, but I give her credit - she knows how to generate publicity. And if CNN boots her from next years New Years show or the FCC gives her crap for cursing on TV, then that's at least a half hour of material for her standup act.

I'm certain the incident will be the top story on her next imaginitively titled Bravo Comedy special...
