I am visiting relatives in the Los Angeles area and the other night a local PBS station aired two episodes. One of the episodes was "David's 17th Birthday", but I was not familiar with the other episode. The cable TV guide was no help as it did not mention the titles of the episodes. From the boys ages, it appears that the other episode is from the first or second season. Thorny's niece comes to visit and Ozzie tells Thorny that David will take the girl to a dance. However, David declines to do so, although Ricky seems very interested. In the end David does take the girl to the dance.

I have looked through some episode guides but none seem to describe the show I watched. Anyone know the name of the episode? Your help is appreciated.

I think that's the right episode. From the first season.

Ozzie is concerned about how Dave gets suckered into doing all sorts of favors for everyone and tells him to just tell people No and not let them walk all over him. Including to Ricky who wants him to fix his bike. And then Ozzie finds himself in a pickle when he rather promises Thorny that Dave will take the niece to the dance.
