I called and wrote to them as did my godmother. We saw a story about a man who was looking for his father. What he knew about his father fit my grandfather to a tee. He even looked like my father's family. When I called the night the story aired they had no idea witch story I refeering to at first. Then the lady told me she'd pass it on to the man. I never heard anything from UM again or the man. I believe he was looking for a Bob Wilson. His last name was Wilson also but Dan or Don. It has been a long time. I would have liked to have heard something from UM even if it turned out not to be him. I even called them back but the operator did not know the case. As I stated above my godmother also wrote reguarding this story.

I occasionally wrote to them to offer suggestions for stories. The first time was in 1994, when my suggestions included the then-unidentified Green River Killer and the death of George Reeves (of the '50s Superman TV series). Both cases were ultimately featured on the show during the 1995-96 season.

There were, in fact, only a few occasions in which they wrote back to me. In one letter (which I still have), they thanked me for recommending the George Reeves case. They acknowledged that they had received thousands of letters making that same request.

Hey everyone!
I wrote to Unsolved Mysteries when I was 11. I don't know if this sounds corny or not, but I had such a thing for Robert Stack that I wrote a fan letter to him, via the UM PO box. This was about 1993, when I first started seeing the reruns on Lifetime. This was back when lifetime had a predictable schedule for UM..and you KNEW that at 8 PM Eastern time you could tune in every night and UM would be on! I wrote to him saying what a big fan he was and what a great actor he was, although the only thing I had ever seen him in was Unsolved Mysteries, Airplane, and this NBC TV movie, The Return of Eliot Ness (1992?)
And I got a letter back from UM! It was a generic thank you letter, but to me it was golden! It had the UM logo in purple lettering.
I still have the UM letter, AND photocopy of the letter I wrote to Robert Stack. If I find them, I will quote them in this thread.
Also, I'm curious...is it just me, or did anyone else ever write "fan mail" to UM? I'd be curious to hear from other fan letter writers!

In fact, looking at it closely, it appears to be a Xerox copy. And actually it was the envelope that had the UM logo in purple lettering, and NOT the actual letter.
I don't know if anyone else ever got a similar letter?
