View Full Version : Isn't this the most underrated sitcom of ALL TIME?
Big3sCompanyFan 12-26-2009, 04:22 PM It amazes me that TCFC is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time but most people in America haven't even heard of it!
The greatest sitcoms ever are:
1. Three's Company (Mostly because of late great John Ritter)
2. The Jeffersons
3. Fresh Prince
4. Family Ties
5. Too Close For Comfort
Of course you all know I'm right. :D
Madame X 01-03-2010, 04:24 PM Yes, in my opinion this show was underrated. The cast was strong and the setting and premise were refreshing and different. I liked Ted Knight's interactions with his mother-in-law Iris (Audrey Meadows) and Monroe Ficus (Jm J. Bullock). Nancy Dussault was a good wife character as Muriel.
If they brought this show back, it might do well. They should give it a chance.

LOL! How can they bring the show back? Resurrect Ted Knight from the dead? :happyface
I think you meant reruns and it SHOULD do well on TV Land but today's viewer can be strange and might not appreciate a classic like Too Close. Family Ties apparently hasn't done well in reruns eventhough it was a HUGE hit when it ran.
But Too Close is even better and the interaction between Ted Knight and Monroe(JM J) was among the best interations in the HISTORY of sitcoms. In addition Audrey Meadows was great and Nancy (Muriel) had great chemistry with Ted and so did both daughters.
An all time classic and I've not even seen past season 4 or so! Still trying to see that plus season 3 and 4 since it's been forever since I've seen those.
Robert 13 01-05-2010, 01:08 PM I wish it would return in reruns or on dvd. Rhino tried to release it and it was stopped after Season 2. Nothing is being done with it now. A real shame.

What do you mean Rhino tried it to release yet it was stopped??
Robert 13 01-05-2010, 02:01 PM Rhino has a retro-TV line of dvds. Seasons 1 & 2 were released. You can still find them for sale online. Then, Season 3 was announced with coverart and cancelled.
Jude The Obscure 01-05-2010, 02:23 PM I remember when TBS over a decade ago, picked this up for reruns and then like two weeks later, dropped it from the schedule and it has never been seen since (at least in my area). They did the same thing with Empty Nest.

WHY was it cancelled??!??!??!???!??

No explanation was given. Several people had contacted Rhino when it was clear the release was, at least, delayed. They were told it wasn't happening anymore and that was all. Something is definitely strange with this series. A few episodes aired on WGN America (or whatever that channel is / we don't have it in my area) but it was never picked up on the regular schedule. It's not helping to make the show visible again. If people can't see it, it becomes forgotten. DLT Entertainment needs to realize this.
TV_on_the_Porch 01-20-2010, 02:39 AM I was very surprised when ABC cancelled it in 1983. It finished the 1982-83 season rated 38th overall. During the first three months of the season it was a very solid second to Simon & Simon and together the two shows obliterated NBC's entry--Cheers! In the latter half of the season Gimme A Break came back to Thursday creating a 'battle for second place' situation. Perhaps ABC expected a stronger showing. Come the next season first 9 to 5 dropped like a stone in that time period then Too Close For Comfort gained new life in first-run syndication.
HuntingtonM15 01-20-2010, 03:07 AM I'd be shocked if anymore seasons made it to DVD. I'd love for it to happen, though. Oh well, two is better than none.

Isn't there a site called dvdcraze.tv or something where we should be able to get the entire series?
It may not be the highest quality but it's better than nothing.
