View Full Version : Anyone remember the case
mikewho 12-24-2009, 11:41 AM That involved a lady who was on lake in a canoe when some guys showed up and attacked her? I think she was with her kid at the time. I dont remember the details all that well since i only saw it once but i always wondered if they ever caught the guys who attacked her.
WishfulDreamer 12-24-2009, 08:38 PM I remember the case, but don't recall the names of the woman and her son. I believe they never caught the guys, but hope I'm wrong. Very disturbing case.
wiseguy182 12-25-2009, 12:27 AM they didn't reveal names, they referred to the woman as "Theresa". Unfortunately, I don't believe the guys were ever caught to my knowledge.
leafygreens 12-30-2009, 01:23 PM I believe the movie The River Wild with Kevin Bacon was inspired by this incident.

Yeah, she was raped by both the men while her son looked on. They also forced her to drink a lot of alcohol.
Wow, that is SHOCKING they never caught her but at least they're both alive because remember that case in FLorida where a mother and her 2 or 3 daughters were raped and KILLED by some dude in boat and dumped in the ocean??
Now THAT was horrifying but they caught that guy and he's on death row I think.

Wow, I didn't know that. That was a pretty good movie. But in the movie the lady was with her son AND husband.
Also in the movie the bad guys got caught or killed. Kevin Bacon was shot by Meryl Streep. That was AWESOME cause I hate Kevin Bacon.
The other guy was arrested but of course in real life that never happened.
I just remembered a MAJOR difference in the movie. Meryl Streep was NOT raped which was very unrealistic. The sad truth is any woman in that situation would've been repeately raped and/or half naked to totally naked a good portion of the time.

That was the Rogers' family, Joan, Christy and Michelle. They were from Ohio and vacationing in Florida when it happened.
wonderfalls 12-30-2009, 07:55 PM What terrible cases.

Has that guy been executed yet? I remembering seeing an interview with him and he still denied it! Unreal!
The electric chair or even the guillotine is made for people like him.
crystaldawn 12-31-2009, 08:54 AM No, unfortunately he's still alive.
I thought someone had posted on here a while back and said that someone had been arrested for the Memorial Day rape in Texas. I'm having a hard time with the search function on here but if I find it, I'll post it.
justins5256 12-31-2009, 10:06 AM She worked with a private investigator named Kenneth W. Treuter. There is some stuff about him and their detective agency on Google.
crystaldawn 12-31-2009, 10:41 AM Justin, do you remember someone posting saying there had been an arrest in the case of the rape on Memorial Day or am I imagining it?
Is anyone having trouble using the search function on this particular board? I've tried three different browsers with no luck.

I don't remember, unfortunately. I know I have this segment on tape, and there is no update, but the tape is old, so there may have been an update later, or possibly arrests were made, and Lifetime did not do an update. I think this was one of the segments that Lifetime didn't show for many years until they revamped the show in 2002-2003 (like the Rolando Cruz Final Appeal).

I haven't tried yet this morning. I'll let you know if I have problems.
EDIT: Just tried a search and it seemed to work as normal. My search actually led me to this post written by Cori aka ChrisSCrush
That was referred to as "The River Wild" case and an update said they were getting a lot of good leads on it. Did any suspects turn up?
Could that be the post you were thinking of?
crystaldawn 12-31-2009, 11:44 AM I do remember on one of my episodes (can't remember the airdate) them mentioning that some "good leads" were called in on the Memorial Day rape case. I also found a reference to it online that they were looking for two men and that the two suspects "were friends". I found that sort of odd unless they're just going by the women who was attacked and her belief that they spoke to each other as if they were friends.

What is the Memorial Day rape in Texas??
crystaldawn 12-31-2009, 01:17 PM What is the Memorial Day rape in Texas??
Well my memory is fuzzy because I've only seen this once years ago as this is one of the few segments I can't bear to watch. I think its basically that this mother and son were terrorized while on an outing on Memorial Day in Glenrose, TX. If I recall correctly the woman was raped in front of her young son so now you can understand why its such a disturbing segment. I'm sure others can remember more details.
justins5256 12-31-2009, 01:23 PM What is the Memorial Day rape in Texas??
It was a story about a woman and her young son who went canoeing on a river in Glen Rose, Texas on Memorial Day in either 1994 or 1995, the exact year escapes me. They were accosted by two men in another canoe. The men raped the woman and forced the son to watch. The men then tethered their canoe to the woman's canoe and forced her and her son to travel down the river with them. Along the way, they drank heavily and raped the woman repeatedly before returning to the dock where they had rented the canoe.
I think the police questioned the owners/employees of the canoe rental place and they claimed they didn't know the men and had no record of the rental, but there was some doubt in that regard.
The segment featured composite drawings of the two men. I believe one was Hispanic. The other man had long stringy blond hair. The woman and her son spent several hours with these guys, so they were able to give good descriptions. Despite this, it seems like the men were never identified, or if they were, there wasn't enough evidence to arrest them.
On the segment, the woman was identified only as "Teresa". If you do some digging, you can find her real name. I have read it online before.
Big3sCompanyFan 12-31-2009, 02:15 PM So the Memorial Day Rape case is the SAME case the OP is talking about in the first post is talking about. Why didn't somebody just say that??
LOL!

Sorry I attempted to answer your question. I'll know better next time.

No, I appreciate your answer. It's that when "Memorial Day Rape Case" was mentioned in the thread it made it sound like someone was bringing up a different case since the OP didn't refer to it as such.
I just wanted someone to clear that up and you and Crystal Dawn did.
Thanks.
mikewho 01-04-2010, 11:55 PM i hope they catch the guys, its a horrible situation to be in for the woman and the son.
