It such a bummer having to talk Sin City with the sudden passing of Brittany Murphy, who starred as Shellie in the 2005 live-action adaptation to Frank Miller's classic graphic novel.
While she wasn't a huge character, who knows what role she might have had in the forthcoming sequel that's been in development hell for over four years now.
While on the set of Predators, Bloody Disgusting's Chris Eggertsen chatted it up with producer Robert Rodriguez who told reporters that while Sin City 2 is still on his radar, it's not his next directing project.
"We still talk about doing that as early/later next year, but I haven’t gotten into that yet," Rodriguez told us.
"I know Frank [Miller] wants to do it I know I wanna do it and its always sort of time permitting kind of thing but its not like I can tell you definitely we’re starting…its not my next picture I know that. Doesn’t mean that its not the picture right after because that’s still a possibility."
As for whether there's a script he's happy with, Rodriguez indicated that the script has been in existence since 2007, and that it will likely be the version that goes into production, with some consideration given to what, if anything, will be altered.
"It’s the one that Frank wrote and we have to look at it now and go is this really the one?…I think its built up so much, like are we really going to satisfy everybody with what we have, should we add to it?
It’s the thing we’ve always talked about but now two years later going on three we’d probably make some adjustments but nothing that would take a long time."
Rumor has it that the sequel is about Dwight McCarthy planing to have his vengeance against the woman who betrayed him, Ava Lord, while Nancy is trying to cope with Hartigan's death.

After years of rumours and false starts, Rodriguez said he and Frank Miller have begun work on Sin City 2. In fact, Rodriguez said they hope to start filming as soon as the end of the year.
"Frank (Miller) has written a script for 'Sin City 2' and it's called A Dame To Kill For. The script is fantastic, we're still working on it and there's this scenario where we could start shooting it before the end of the year.
This is the closest we've ever been to making it happen.
It will be the same format (as 'Sin City') of three stories and a wrap around.
One of the stories has a fantastic title; The Long Bad Night so you can just imagine where that's going. It's a completely new, original story. You can't find it in a book."
Rodriguez said he will make the Sin City sequel in 3D because he has "an idea for how that technology can be used in a way that it hasn't been before."

JamesG 02-28-2014, 01:49 PM Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Sin Again in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For -- EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK
by Lindsey Bahr

Legendary graphic novelist Frank Miller’s super-stylized gang of strippers and scoundrels is back on the big screen for four tales of pulpy intrigue in the 3-D neo-noir sequel Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (out Aug. 22).
Despite years of production hell, Rodriguez and Miller are finally close to finishing — they’re currently fine-tuning the special effects to make the visual feast even more arresting.
“There’s something about the way Sin City works that I thought would lend itself very well to 3-D because the images are so stripped down and abstract…you almost can see it better in 3-D,” Rodriguez says. “It’ll be really cool.”

Jessica Alba’s Nancy Callahan is still dancing at Kadie’s, but she’s changed since John Hartigan’s (Bruce Willis) death in the original 2005 cult classic.
“She’s out for revenge,” says Miller, who co-directed the film. “She is sick of being treated — as she puts it — ‘as a piece of ass.’”
Robert Rodriguez adds: “You see a little girl in that first film. By the end of this, she’s the avenging angel.”
Alba’s acting work has taken a backseat to other endeavors in the past few years, but Miller assures us that she is “eight times the actor that she was when I did the first film.”

Mickey Rourke reprises his role as the murderous Marv with his signature flattop ‘do and stern demeanor for Miller’s story “Just Another Saturday Night.”

And Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets in on the action, too, playing the hard-luck gambler Johnny. Miller penned a new story for Gordon-Levitt’s segment, but Rodriguez and Miller remained tight-lipped on the specifics of the plot.
“He beat the wrong guy at poker,” teases Rodriguez. “It begins the journey that describes the title of his story: ‘The Long Bad Night.’”
