Look. I’m not saying it’ll ever actually happen, but you gotta start somewhere, and someone actually got the ball rolling on this one. After years of something like an ironic grassroots campaign to make it happen, it’s now official: There is a Saved by the Bell movie in the works.

Is it the reunion episode we’ve all been pining away for? And by all, I mean: Jimmy Fallon’s audience? No. Not exactly. From what I can gather, it’s not a reunion movie. It’s a big-screen feature film “based on” the original ’90s series. What does that mean? Probably an all new cast (and if we’re lucky, cameos from the original stars).

How would that work? Beats me. But, they managed to make a gritty (but fairly dull) version of “Miami Vice,” Maybe they take that very special steroids episode and turn it into a hard-hearted full-length feature. I dunno.

What I do know is that it is being developed. Jon Shestack productions (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Dan in Real Life) has apparently secured the rights, and put a couple of producers on the project, Jeremy Stein (The Photographer) and Ginny Brewer, who also produced Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and Dan in Real Life. The project is currently out to writers.

I suppose it was inevitable, really. They’d first go for our authentic nostalgic affection, and then they’d go for our ironic nostalgic affection. What’s left, really? A Small Wonder movie, I guess. Once Hollywood has come to that, I think we can safely assume it’s officially run out of ideas.

Horrible idea, surprised the CW isn't reviving it.......lol......

I believe we already got enough remakes, hence...The new class with belding and screech.....hopefully this will never be done without the original cast....

I'll put this one in the column of John Stamos first doing a TV series update of "Full House" with candace and jodi, now it's rumored to be a theatrical with an all new cast as well....BTW...what is it with Stamos being so interested in "Full House" lately? Especially with his very successful broadway role right now....

anyway I'm also waiting (NOT!) for the rumored Miley Cirus "Gidget" movie and I forgot the nearly 10 years "I Dream Of Jeannie" has been in development.

HAHAH, soooo true! I'd probably watch it just out of interest since I love Saved by the Bell but not expecting it to be good at all, really.

I agree with everyone else. This is a terrible idea and I seriously hope it doesn't happen. The original cast is really is too old to do SbtB these days and bringing in younger actors to either play the same characters or play new characters wouldn't work either. Just look at how well The New Class was accepted with a bunch of new actors... I hate to say it, but it's best Saved by the Bell just stays dead. We have 4 series and 2 made-for-tv movies and they're all available on DVD(well except for Good Morning, Miss Bliss unfortunately :( ). That's good enough for me.

The New Class didn't work not because it was simply following the original, it was because the show just flat out wasn't good to begin with. They recycled plots from the old series, they frequently changed cast members (thus, it was hard to grow a proper attachment to the characters), the writing and direction were subpar/underwhelming, and they completely Flanderized the Screech and Mr. Belding characters (turning them into some Laurel and Hardy type of sideshow).

Personally, I honestly wouldn't mind the idea of a Saved by the Bell movie as long as they make it in the spirit of the Brady Bunch movies. Meaning, that it celebrates the show, while at the same time, deconstructing the various flaws and logic problems behind the seams.
