This is from my very own hometown of Cleveland. WJW-8 was then Cleveland's CBS affiliate (now it's the FOX affiliate), so it was quite fitting that the Newhart stars would do this promo. :D

I have always greatly admired John Volstad and Tony Papenfuss for creating such memorable and lovable characters without ever saying a word! And William Sanderson was perfect casting to play the third brother who is the voice for all three. It's neat that they did a promo for one of your home town TV stations!

Yup - I don't even remember seeing the ad when it first aired. But I did watch the show during its original run because my parents did. I vividly remember watching the last episode when it first aired - and being confused about why my mom and grandma were in hysterics when Suzanne Pleshette showed up. It was years before I'd see Bob's previous show.

Another Cleveland/Newhart connection - Jack Riley (Mr. Carlin) is from here, and has mentioned the city in his commentaries on the BNS DVDs. I loved when he gave Cleveland a shout out. :D

It's too bad you hadn't seen TBNS before you saw the Newhart finale. You could have enjoyed that moment so much more like your mom and grandma did. And like I and millions of other people did. I still think that was one of the greatest moments in sitcom history! And I love Bob's line "that's the last time I eat Japanese food before bedtime". And his other line "Emily you should were more sweaters"!
