I’ve been watching “Newhart” episodes that I’ve taped from WGN and recently caught an episode where Dick and Joanna are going to couple’s therapy. As they are waiting in the lobby of the therapist’s office, Mr. Carlin (although he never gives his name) comes walking out. Dick looks at him suspiciously.

DICK: You look so familiar-

CARLIN: You got a problem, fella?

DICK: Your face looks so-

CARLIN: Yeah, yours isn’t too nice to look at either.

DICK: I just thought I recog-

CARLIN: Do me a favor, fruitcake- get some help (walks out the door)

The therapist comes out and introduces herself to Dick and Joanna:
“I’m sorry for my patient, you’ll have to excuse him. I’ve been working with him for YEARS to undo the damage caused by some quack doctor in Chicago.” LOL

That was awesome. I love Jack Riley - one of the great character actors of our time. Plus, he's from my hometown (Cleveland), so that makes him even cooler!! :D

Hey, that's really cool. I had always HEARD he made a guest appearance, but had no idea they got that creative with it. It was hilarious. Jack Riley is great, loved his couple of cameos on Night Court in the '80s also.

He also used to do bit parts on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno back in the 1990s.
