After a ten year diet of reruns and novels published by Bantam Books, Star Trek fans were treated to an all new adventure on December 7, 1979 when Star Trek-The Motion Picture opened in theaters. Produced by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and diected by Robert Wise (West Side Story, The Sound of Music, The Sand Pebbles), the film remains 30 years later the most debated of the Star Trek movies with fans who either love it or hate it. I'm one of the ones who loves it. I think its a beautifully made film that deals with the search for God and the meaning of life. The film also features a great score by the late, great Jerry Goldsmith. 7th Heaven fans will also be interested in knowing that its the first film that Stephen Collins had a leading role in.
