Or do we see any of it in Season 6? I mean, is she in the new apartment right when the season begins, or do we get any final shots of the old apartment?

"Mary Moves Out" is the second ep. of S6. According to TV.com, "Edie Gets Married" comes first, but I'm not really sure how much of the apartment is seen there. I do know there are some scenes in "Mary Moves Out" before Mary actually does move to the new place. So no, S5 isn't really the last we see of the first apartment, but it's pretty close, hehe!

OK, thanks for the headsup. I'll miss the old apartment, though - wouldn't mind having one like it myself someday!! :D

I haven't seen "Mary Moves Out" in a long time, but my recollection is that the episode opens with Mary in her first apartment with (I think) Ted, Georgette and Sue Ann. She's sort of in a somber mood about her life being in a rut as both Rhoda and Phyllis have moved on. Out of this conversation comes the idea that Mary needs some sort of change in her life, so maybe moving to a new apartment would make her feel better.

I liked that apartment, too. Seemed like a lot of space for someone on Mary's wages, but hey why look a gift horse in the mouth? :)

Don't forget, Phyllis was Mary's friend (and the landlady) - and I think she mentioned in the pilot ep that she'd gotten a good deal on the apartment for Mary.

Not only that, but she signed the lease before Mary had ever set foot in the place. A typical Phyllis move, of course! ;)

Just to keep Rhoda out!! Of course, the plan backfired when Mary and Rhoda became best friends - leaving Phyllis as the third wheel.

I loved Mary's first apartment...it was so "Mary"!
The decorations were great, of course, with the "M" the nicest one, and I liked the colorful pulldown between the kitchen and the dining area.
But to me the best part about it was that it had the upper and lower levels.
I also loved that area all along the space between the upper and lower levels, where she could put books and stuff.
So many things made TMTMS unique, and that was another one...having the two levels...most of the interesting stuff happened on the lower part, but a lot of funny stuff happened on the upper part, and even a few things out on the balcony!
My first apartment in college didn't have 1/10th the charm Mary's place did!

I know what you mean about the balcony - when a depressed Ted was standing there for two hours, covered in falling snow, Mary said she couldn't stand to see him like that anymore. So she just pulled the curtains!!

Well, still it was just a studio apartment. And I don't think she had a washer or dryer, so her rent couldn't have been all that high.
