Watching the marathon on TV Land and everything that you hear like

unemployment
no jobs available
trying to make it from day to day
Horrible Job Market
Doing whatever you can to keep your current job

Are all the things I'm going through right now in 2009 which makes the show watchable again.

I know what you mean - all those topics are timeless, sad to say.

Yup, watching this show as a kid was for laughs but now watching as an adult I can relate to the economy

I think great shows like Good Times are always timeless. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to remake GT.

Thats one of the reasons I had a hard time getting into this show. Some of it was funny, but I always thought they hit you over the head too much about the fact that Evans family were poor and living in the ghetto. In some ways the show is quite depressing.

I agree, that's about the only good thing i can see about the penny era, that from 1977 to 79 it wasn't that depressing

That's an excellent observation. Of course, for many millions, the "Good Times" way of life has never truly gone out of style; it's only because the numbers of those living that way have grown exponentially of late that it seems to be suddenly "back in".

Either way, it's a rare show that showcases people living on a check to check, day to day basis. So many sitcoms have characters talking about how poor they are while living in an opulent apartment with a job that could in NO way afford such a place in real life (*cough* Friends).

I put "All in the Family" in this category, too. The Bunkers and Stivics wore normal clothing, didn't eat out much, did simple things for entertainment (TV, an occasional movie or bowling), pitched together to make ends meet and looked and sounded like REAL people living in a real neighborhood.

I thought it was going to say coming back as a reality show! Pleazzzze no more reality shows based on sitcoms!
