As I'm sure many of you know, the Final Appeal of Glenn Consagra is one of my favorite cases. Every few months, I do a search on his name to see if I can locate new information. I finally hit paydirt today when I found some very detailed articles about the case including some information that was not mentioned in the Unsolved Mysteries broadcast. Very neat articles from the St. Petersburg Times...

Hey! :) I did skim most of the articles. I'm still on the fence whether he is guilty or not. I am a bit surprised why they were both naked. Any theories on that? Not sure why they would go to the trouble of taking their clothes off and I'm curious whether or not the clothes were on the spoilbank or if they were ever found.

Hey! ;) I just re-read the articles again.

I believe the UM story also mentioned that the bodies were found nude. I can only surmise that whomever disposed of the bodies (Consagra or possibly someone else) did so to destroy any possible physical evidence. It sounds as if they were in the water for three days. Therefore I was very surprised to read in one of the articles that a pubic hair was found on Mary Lou that may have belonged to Consagra. If this is true, and they had some kind of sexual contact on the night of the murders, and we assume he is guilty, I can understand his disposing of them this manner in an effort to eliminate physical evidence. Interestingly enough, the articles did not mention if there were any signs of sexual contact on either body (aside from the discovery of the pubic hair). Another odd thing - you would think they would be able to positively identify the hair as belonging to Consagra. The article says nothing definite on that.

What I find even more strange is the public defender's sudden and unexpected withdraw from their efforts to seek post conviction relief for Consagra without giving cause or reason. I wonder if they discovered evidence of his guilt or he admitted guilt and that made them pull out. Any legal minds care to comment?

A few other random points of interest - Mary Lou was Freddie's common law wife. Freddie was also Consagra's former brother-in-law.

All three were reportedly drunk on the night of the murders. The prosecution contends this was the reason they let Consagra slide on "guilty" and "no contest" pleas to the lesser charges of second degree murder rather than the more serious charges of first degree (premeditated) murder.

None of the articles mention the story Consagra told during his interview on UM - that he was sleeping and awaken by gunfire. It sounds like he stuck to his claims about Freddie and Mary Lou taking the boat out to buy more beer and leaving him stranded. I wonder at what point he revised his story. I don't believe the articles mentioned Honeymoon Island either (unless I missed it) and Consagra's claim that was their ultimate destination and his explanation for them ending up on the spoil bank due to engine trouble.

The boat was found submerged about a mile from the spoilbank.

"Donna" says she and two unnamed men carried out the murders as part of a contract hit over a marijuana deal gone bad.

Well it would shock me if a pubic hair was found on a body that had been naked in the water for a significant amount of time. Perhaps there was some sort of relationship between Glenn and Lou beyond friends. That may have even been a trigger to the fight that night with her and Freddy.
