Bad Route rest stop.

1. Sadly so much time has passed by in a lot of these cases that some of these sites are unrecognizable.

2. Technically you could always visit a UM site. Odds are there at least 4 cases that are within driving distance. I personally could visit 7 sites right now.

3. The Senseless Shooting in Connecticut(drove down that same spot three times)

6. I have been several times at the Moxley murder spot and witnessed the commotion at the trial.

I visited Dutra's Market in North Truro, MA - site of one of the alien abduction episodes. It looks pretty much the same except the parking area isn't as open and there are more trees. You can also see an outline of where the payphone used to be. I went inside and bought a few things. Quaint little place.

Someone posted pictures of the schoolhouse on here earlier this year.

I used to drive by the parking garage where Jon Grundhofer was kidnapped almost every day. It's right off of 5th and 3rd in downtown Minneapolis - now on the light rail line.

I have family near Lawton, OK, and I've thought about maybe trying to find the bridge where Aeileen Conway crashed.

I would also like to see the two memorials you mentioned here. Some other sites i would like to see, the bridal shop in wichita which was one of the interstate 70 killer's spots,(and when my in laws lived in Wichita, we actually tried to find it but couldn't). If you go on the forbidden sight, you can see many locations right on your own computer. I typed East Millinocket into the search engine and got to see some of the area through a video someone shot while driving around.

The same for Clinton, Missouri where Anglea Hammond was abducted. Someone drove through the town holding a video camera and I saw many of the buildings featured in the segment.

It really is. Robert Stack wasn't kidding in the segment when he said this was a lonely country road. Although, the school house is only several miles outside the city of Coldwater. Here are a few more pictures I took that day...

Of course, Resurrection Cemetary and the site of the Girdon Light....but not w/o 6,000 people with me :); the bridge where Dan Short was thrown off to pay my respects. Something about that case and the way he died haunts me.

I remember posting on here about 5 years ago how I grew up a block from where the Night Stalker shot his only Orange County resident. Nearly 20 years to the day I (inadvertently) ended up on that exact street as part of a canvassing crew. I ended up posting a flyer on the exact house where the attack happened. MAJOR shivers up the spine.

I've been to Resurrection Cemetery (I have relatives buried there) in Chicago, as well as Frenier Beach/Landing (Thomas Hotard/Audrey Moate) near LaPlace, LA. 'Beach' isn't a very accurate description; it's mostly swampland and an illegal dump site.

I wanted to. I really did. I could have easily climbed over the fence, walked behind the school and tried to find the approximate area of where the hole was. But I didn't. With all the overgrown weeds, it would have been a pain. Plus, I was starting to feel a little creeped out being there. So, I took my pictures and left.

Luckily, the weather was gorgeous that day and it was bright and sunny. It would have felt extra creepy if it were dark and cloudy like on the UM segment.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has visited the St James Hotel :cool:

I picked up a book at Big Lots for three bucks that has locations in the Southwest for couples...it featured the La Posada hotel and mentioned the Staab mansion is part of it and you can still rent rooms. Not my fav but it was fun to recognize that...didn't say anything about it being haunted though!

I would like to check out the part of the desert where they found David Stone. And I'd like to check out that "zigzag canyon" with the trickle of water that used to be a waterfall, where they found all that gold, according to legend.

2. All of the backroads involved in the Signal Mountain, TN in the ATV murders (when they were still unsolved!)

3. Sixteenth Avenue in Nashville where Kevin Hughes was gunned down

4. Mineral Springs Mountain Road and the I-40 bridge in Valdese, NC, of the Rhonda Hinson murder

5. Kurt Sova's old neighborhood of Newburgh Heights, OH.

6. Lake Guntersville near Huntsville, AL of the Wanda Jean Mays case

7. The parking lot William Bradford Bishop left his station wagon in at the Elkmont area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park


Less worthy of mention as exploration was either minimal or little more than a "passage through": Bryant, AR (Ives/Henry), Odessa, TX (Neil Jennings), Las Cruces, NM (Bowling alley massacre), San Angelo, TX (Stewart/McNelley), Lake Panasoffkee (drove right over it on the way to see my boyfriend's family in Tampa), Circleville, OH (I got to see the big pumpkin water tower, haha), Nashville, IN (Clarence Roberts), and Oak Grove, KY (Bordello murders...used to stop there to fill up on gas and get something to eat on trips to Decatur, IL when my ex-husband was working up there).


I'd like to see:

1. All the Son of Sam sites

2. Gomarlo's Food and Circus in West Swanzey, NH where Jane Boroski was attacked by the CRVK

3. The prairie where Don Kemp was found in rural Wyoming

4. The Bad Route rest area (I thought I'd read somewhere it had been closed down, however)

5. Lake Pontchartrain of the Moate/Hotard case

6. All the "Orange Sock" murders sites in Park/Summit Counties, CO

7. Silver Plume, CO, from which Keith Reinhard disappeared

And really, so many more. Cases become so much clearer when you can actually get out to the sites, visualize everything in "360", and generally get a "feel" for the place.

I mean that area out there is completely deserted. There is only a handful of small towns within the proximity around it. Fallon, Montana population 140 is about 6 or 7 miles southwest of the rest area. Terry, Montana, population 610 is about 15, 16 miles southwest of the rest area. Still open, interesting.....I'm assuming he went to Glendive as well. That's a relatively lengthy drive from the rest stop, though. I'd be interested to see a crime map for the Stefonek case, particularly where that dump site was--if it was on the way to Glendive or one of the other small towns, etc. It doesn't really mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but it would be an interesting bit to know.

That case never made any semblance of sense to me at all--why burn Dexter's car out in the open? Why throw all of his belongings in the dump site months after he'd been killed? Why kill the man in the first place?

Was Dexter's murder a possible thrill kill? :(

Yes, I have always been confused behind why Dexter's killing happened too. The thrill kill is a possibility. However the killer seemed to be very organized and seemed rather experienced. I will put it this way, I do not think Dexter was the first person he killed nor the last person he killed. Now the killer did not put the gas into his truck. So that tells me his truck was not out of gas. I think it was something where the killer was probably already at the rest stop or came in right after Dexter did.

If he was already waiting there then I think that he was just going to kill the first person that came in. That person happened to be Dexter, wrong place, wrong time. However Dexter was just not shot, he was beaten before he was shot and I believe the killer also tried to strangled to him. There was damage to his neck and his throat as well as to his face. So it seems there was a lot of rage there too and so it seems to go beyond a 'simple' killing where someone is just killing for the sake of killing. It seems for whatever reason it was personal at least to the killer.

I have almost wondered whether this was a road rage type incident or something of that nature? I mean to me the case is just weird. I mean it just seemed so personal and plus the killer taking the clothing and other belongings of Dexter's to a remote dump site that only locals would seem to know about. Like I said, it leads me to believe that the killer was familiar with the area and had possibly even lived in the area before or worked in the area perhaps on a ranch. His truck had Arizona plates but had a cow catcher on the front which is fairly distinctive although not so unusual in Montana where there are many ranches but the truck stood out to the maintenance supervisor because of the Arizona plates.

I wouldn't mind visiting the spot where the New Hampshire Serial Killer (a.k.a. Connecticut Valley Serial Killer) stabbed that woman and then follow the route that they took to her friend's house with the victim coming up behind the perpetrator. That is truly one of the creepiest UM segments ever IMO.

The road and area Michael Rosenblum disappeared.

The store where the clerk heard the gunfire from Bill Roberts (Blackwell) 's gun.

The hill where George Owens car was discovered.

The ATV murder sites (including the gate if it was still there)

The back alley's of Beverly Hills where Tony lives or lived.

The area beyond the building shaped like an ice cream cone where Rebecca Young was brutally murdered.

About a year ago. My ex-husband used to work in Sandusky, OH, which is about 60 miles west of Cleveland. We visited Cleveland a few times and one day I asked him if we could go see Newburgh Heights.

Most of the greater Cleveland area in general is run down. The housing market plummet there was almost the worst in the entire country. Newburgh Heights is typical of most older rust belt communities--lots of ill-maintained older homes, run-down warehouses, old factories. I've read drugs are a pretty big problem there. But from what I saw (aside from the crumbling infrastructure), people seemed to feel safe enough to walk the sidewalks. I saw men, women, and children alike roam quite freely about seemingly without concern. Personally, I didn't witness or experience anything even slightly unnerving. But I was also visiting in broad daylight on a weekday, in the company of a male. If circumstances were different, maybe my perception would be.

I would like to visit Saxonberg to pay respects to Officer Adams.

I have been to the Bad Route Rest Area, and it was actually a well-trafficked stop off of I-94. I didn't really feel like it was out in the middle of nowhere, but a lot of rest areas are where they are because there aren't a lot of other services available. The building had been updated and it was pretty well maintained.

I can't get a photo posted right now because my file size is too big, but when I figure out how to compress it I'll post it.

Places I've been:

*The pier in Redondo Beach, CA where the sea lions were fed and loved by locals on the pier. RB is actually my hometown.
* The Sav-on in Torrance, CA where one of the fugitives on UM was captured (forget which, but I'll edit when I find it)
*The bank/complex in Manhattan Beach, CA where Martin Ganz was shot. There is a stretch of highway dedicated to him that I have been on many times.
* The Queen Mary ship (and below deck!) in Long Beach, CA.
* Granite, OK. I did not see the prison, but I did speak to a relative who did and who knew both Bobbi Parker and Randolph Dial.
* Have driven by Cal Poly Tech in San Louis Obispo, CA many times (where Kristin Smart disappeared).

That's awesome. I'm glad the officers from oak grove were finally arrested. I think Ed carter was living in the cincinnati area when I did. maybe the most memorable for me is Gettysburg. I stayed at the college campus that was featured. Although I saw no ghosts it was Erie to see bullet holes in the side of buildings. If anyone likes history this is probably the most unique small town I've ever visited and to think a pivotal part of our nations history was seen there. It is preserved very well. It is kind of strange but I'd have to say the Ohio truck driver serial murders. I drove around Ohio a lot on the interstates and always thought about that. There were always so many trucks driving around. I also drove around the area in clermont county Ohio and maysville Kentucky where perm Gilbert was. I never went to circleville.

I've been to several places in Arizona New Mexico Nevada and California that were featured esp in the vegas and phx areas. It is kind of strange going out in the desert knowing that you are isolated like that. You kind of get an idea why criminals dump bodies there and wonder what some people were thinking by going out there.

I started watching UM when I lived in Houston as a young kid and I know houston was featured a lot. I've been in the hospital that Judy olive was in. I stopped watching UM when the ih 70 killer was alleged to be in my hometown. I always wonder where patsy wright lived and also wonder which church was featured on UM in that segment if it was in arlington...

I had always planned on driving by the Glass Bank where Tami Leppert disappeared, since its only an hour or two away, but they tore it down a few months ago. :-( There's plenty of footage of the demolition on YT, plus there's an incredible video of some kids who broke in to explore it before it was torn down. You could do a long video of crazy story of that bank itself if you wanted to.

I've also been to piazza tasso in Sorrento, Italy... the site where Roy Harrell spotted his old co-worker Brad Bishop and tried to get him to COME BACK COME BACK!!!! On a bus to Rome with him. I should post a pic of that area. Beautiful part of the world.

Closest I can claim to anything purported to be affiliated with the Judy Hymes would be doing a boat cruise that briefly entered the waters of Biscayne Bay... but the highlight of that was seeing the former home of Vanilla Ice. :lol:

I would love to visit the Blind River rest stop, the site where Aileen Conway was murdered, the ATM that Matthew Chase was filmed at with his 'EXTREMELY' creepy murderer and the site where Leah Roberts jeep was found. If anyone has been to any of these spots i would be very interested to see.
