catlover79 12-01-2009, 02:21 PM Awesome!! :D
scotsguy 12-01-2009, 03:34 PM In the UK here but would love some Phyllis episodes, also looking for Rhoda season1 "Windows By Rhoda","A Nice Warm Rut" and "Everything I have Is Yours Almost",unedited.
catlover79 12-01-2009, 03:39 PM Does anyone here know when the last time Phyllis reruns were aired here in the US?
Zoneboy 12-01-2009, 03:43 PM Darn. :(
JamesG 12-01-2009, 03:57 PM Does anyone here know when the last time Phyllis reruns were aired here in the US?
I remember it airing on Nick at Nite around 1996-1998. I believe they aired MTM, Rhoda, and Phyllis together around this time.
scotsguy 12-01-2009, 05:18 PM The UK cable channel,The Family Channel ran Phyllis in the mid 90s after the first season, they showed the very last episode then most of season2,missing out Mother Dexter's Wedding.
I'd love some decent copies of Phyllis although I have the first two episodes on vhs, that I got on EBay.
I'm looking forward to watching these shows again.

Thanks - I know it had been a long time.
wayman 12-01-2009, 11:50 PM Glad to hear this. Since no DVD release for "Phyllis" has been announced, this will do for now! I'll be watching!
Retro4Life 12-01-2009, 11:59 PM I always thought that "Phyllis" was an underrated show. I suppose it never could have reached the heights of MTM or Rhoda simply because the main character wasn't always as sympathetic as the former two, but it had an appealingly quirky sensibility and humor, and the cast worked and meshed really well together.
Plus it had an awesome theme song! :)
Jude The Obscure 12-02-2009, 12:26 AM ALN really needs to work on getting more carriage on cable and satellite. So much good airing that is unseen by most of the US.

Yeah I see that to date the only home release of this show was a VHS from the early 90s that had the first two eps.
It's been out-of-print for years.

I agree. I live in NY, and I'd KILL to get this channel! Esp. if they air shows like Rhoda. And of course if MTM was on there, that would make my life, LOL!
Pavan 12-02-2009, 04:50 AM ALN is airing holiday episodes of The MTM Show this month. See the blog story.
scotsguy 12-02-2009, 07:02 AM Phyllis vhs does surface on EBay now and again I got mine a few years ago so they're still about.
I think there were too many changes in season2,putting Phyllis in an office was a bad idea, too many new characters,I do think though Phyllis was more like her old selfish self again in season2,she got a bit too "goody goody" for a lot of season1.
If anyones gonna be taping Phyllis on American Life, please private me,thanks!
Zoneboy 12-02-2009, 07:38 AM I agree. I live in NY, and I'd KILL to get this channel.
I get it through SkyAngel's IPTV service, All you need is a high speed internet connection. :)
scotsguy 12-07-2009, 10:18 AM If anyone can send me the complete Phyllis,I'd be very grateful.
I have episodes from The Family Chanel in the 90s,sound not too great.
TeeVeeCloset 12-07-2009, 12:04 PM Plan on recording these, I don't know about Rhoda, as we will have two seasons out soon, BUT the REAL BIG QUESTION IS..which I believe no one has asked yet, will AmericanLife run Rhoda episode #1 Uncut with the opening Mary scene??? that Shout Factory didn't secure in their very edited season one release, we know it airs overseas, so it does exsist...I will be recording that day for sure!
Impressions 01-02-2010, 02:33 PM I don't think ALN runs them uncut. I timed Phyllis and it was 22:10. Not sure about Rhoda.
scotsguy 01-03-2010, 11:58 AM From what I've heard the opening scene of Mary Tyler Moore seeing Rhoda off at the airport was shown but the scene of Rhoda applying make up,waiitng for Joe was cut out.
Did they show the pre titles scene of Phyllis being told Lars had no money on Phyllis?

I posted this complete review of content run of both rhoda and phyllis on AmericanLife Cable as aired on 1/1/10, but it seems it needs updating as to answer your question...Phyllis was also obvioulsy edited as it started with the theme song and not the opening scene in which you describe, and someother poster said it clocked in a little over 22 minutes, then again edited!
my original post from Saturday is below....
Rhoda airs on ALN with rare Mary scene but episode still edited heavily!
It was strange that American Life Cable decided to start airing two new series to their schedule on a Friday, but it was New Years Day....anyway...
My DVD recorder was ready, as I plan on getting the entire run of Phyllis, (which appeared to be unedited) but was only going to record Rhoda #1 due to the much talked about missing Mary airport scene from the shout set....Would AmericanLife run the long missing scene?, YES!!! and in perfect quality, I sat back and decided I would then probably just record the edited episodes from shouts season 1 set and create my own "unedited bonus discs"....but to my surprise, a few minutes later Rhoda was now being shown in edited form with abrupt cuts, it started when Joe walked into Brenda's apt with his son. I was cutting the commercials out and the episode clocked in at a little over 22 minutes with even awkward editing between the credits before the main music ending credits.
I've now decided to just put together a perfect Rhoda Episode #1 disc, since I have the luxury of working in the TV industry, I have a professional editing system and I will create an episode combining the two versions.....I think it will be quite easy, as I believe the only thing missing from Shouts version was the Mary scene, so I just need to put that at the the beginning of the shout version and I should have a complete 25 or so minute episode.
But again the good news, even though I haven't clocked it yet, Phyllis #1seemed to be unedited.....but will it continue???? Tune in on Monday, Same Bat Channel, Same Bat times...lol...
BTW....Both were very good quality episodes with vivid color.........

That's exactly what I said on the post above you, at first I thought it was uncut, but I was sadly mistaken......Rhoda is cut as well, but in different places where it is cut on the Shout season one version....that means...at least three different versions of each first season Rhoda episode exsist...
For example: Rhoda #1
Edited Shout Season one set without opening Mary scene
Edited AmericanLife with Mary opening scene but other edits
Original full 25 plus minute version
as I previously said I plan on professional editing the two edited versions together to form the best complete Rhoda #1 episode possible.
As for Phyllis, it is rare, so I'm recording the entire edited 48 episode run with commercials perfectly deleted.
McGillicuddy 01-06-2010, 10:03 PM Well, Phyllis is missing its opening scene before the opening credits in the pilot. Hopefully, thats all thats missing, but that's as discouraging as the "Mary seeing Rhoda off at the airport" opening scene being missing from the Rhoda pilot!
I'm glad for what you are doing TeeVee! THE ALN network is not available in my area, so I hope its available on youtube! or for sale on DVDR at some point.

I began to question whether I actually had seen the opening scene on Phyllis #1 when it was brought up in this thread, I was very tired on new years day morning and had a post it reminder and alarm clock wake-up call just to record the episode directly to DVD....I haven't had time to check out the episode and just making sure I'm getting the entire 48 episode run is a challenge, the second airing is a great backup at 5PM. But yes I agree and now believe the opening scene did not run...thanks for your correction to my original post!
Edster2973 01-12-2010, 12:29 AM In case anyone's interested, I have the first two eps of Phyllis up on youtube. Do a search for Edster73 and Phyllis and it'll show up. The eps are from the VHS release of the first 2 eps that came out a few years back. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy inspite of the occasional static that occurs due to how old the tape was.
I thought the first 2 eps were great but I'm always saddened at the thought of Barbara Colby and what happened to her. Bad enough that she was murdered, but just when her star was beginning to rise... talk about cruel. I hope she's in peace now.
Ed
scotsguy 01-12-2010, 08:15 AM Thanks Ed,I have the first two episodes too,but didn't know how to upload on youtube.
Yes totally agree so sad and horrible what happened to Barbara Colby.
The actor killed with her, plays a customer in the bank in a season2 episode of Rhoda.

Yes, his name was James Kiernan, right? I've yet to see the episode, unfortunately, but will check it out once Rhoda Season 2 makes it onto DVD.
What makes what happened even more horrible is that the murder was never solved. WTF...
Ed
scotsguy 01-12-2010, 09:54 AM Yes its the episode of season2 "With Friends Like These" of Rhoda.
Barbara Colby was a great talent, her version of Julie I think liked Phyllis, the Liz Torres version of Julie, I always felt, found Phyllis a Royal pain.
TeeVeeCloset 01-12-2010, 01:35 PM A very sexy (of course) pre WKRP Loni Anderson appeared today in episode #8 "The First Date"....so far recording is going well and I expect to get all 48 episodes on 8 discs with 6 episodes per disc with commercials professionally edited out in the 2 & 1/2 hour recording speed.
