No I do not think Monk will Die

He's supposed to find out who killed Trudy, but I don't think there have ever been plans for him to die. However, this show has been so disappointing since Stanley Kammel died, so nothing really surprises me. My husband still loves it, but I'm kinda lukewarm about it. I used to love it. I was surprised that they are ending it so soon, instead of going the full season 8. Wonder what's up with that?

This is the full season 8. All seasons past season 1 have 16 episodes in them. However, they would split the seasons up, airing one half in the summer and the second half in January. What they've done for season 8 is air all 16 episodes without the split. So they're all being played through without interruptions (expect twice, they pre-empted the series).

You didn't see the first of the two part finale, did you, Schmoopie? I only ask that because Monk was told he has only three days to live. That's what this thread is based on. He basically has three days to finally solve Trudy's murder. Though I would be okay with Monk dying, I don't think the writers have "the stones" to kill him off. That would mean no reunion movies or ANY future "Monk" projects (except for a spin-off of another character, I suppose).

I love "Monk" all the way through. I think the early episodes (seasons 1 & 2) were just so well written and sharp. But the whole series is great. In fact, I even like Dr. Bell (Hector Elizondo). They haven't used him much this season and that's a shame. Julie's also been in very few episodes these past two seasons.

...if you "kill off" the lead character of a TV series- ANY TV series- in their final episode, people will not want to watch the show in repeats because the trauma of seeing the character "alive" again, after seeing him/her expire on screen, would be too much for even its loyal fans.
When the producers of "MEDIUM" were unsure whether their series would be renewed by NBC for the fall of 2009, they had "Allison DuBois" [Patricia Arquette] fall into a coma in the final episode of the season, figuring if the show ended, at least viewers could create their own scenarios as to how she "came out of it". Fortunately, CBS renewed it, and "Allison" DID recover.

I haven't watched the finale yet (part one anyway), so this really clears up a lot. Thanks. I didn't realize that they had been showing the entire season without the break, but it makes sense. I do like Hector as Dr Bell, but Dr Kroger will always be Adrian's shrink to me.

Based on what you've told me, I don't think they are going to kill Adrian, because the writer, Lee Goldberg (who writes "Monk") said on the USA messageboard that he is going to continue writing the books, so it wouldn't make sense to kill the main character. But we'll just have to wait and see. If they kill Adrian, there will be hell to pay from the fans, that's for sure.

Lee Goldberg, who is a very talented writer, KNOWS enough not to "kill the goose that lays the golden egg"; in his case, "Adrian Monk". Especially if he intends to write a series of original follow-up novels after the series officially ends. And NBC/Universal is not going to risk the loss of loyal viewers- and their "golden egg"- if the series ends "unhappily".

My husband is watching Part One right now. I'm tempted to, but I may just wait until next week and watch them both one right after the other. I really should get caught up on the episodes I've missed-which is a lot. I've been watching the marathon and there have been some really good episodes on. I hate to say that I don't like the show. It just really has lost something huge since Stanley Kammel died. That hit me VERY hard, so it's difficult for me to grasp the concept of a new shrink. If they had done it differently, I would have accepted it better, but their so called tribute to Stanley Kammel was such a letdown. I think it's time for some fan fiction!
