Conan O'Brien is currently in a lose-lose situation, as Tim Goodman points out, and his best option right now might be to leave the network and start his third act. "Starting over, and later, at another network – one that wants and respects him – might not be such a bad thing," says Goodman. "Fox? ABC? Who knows. Something has to give at NBC. It might sound crazy now. But NBC knows how to super-size crazy."

Ironically, NBC wanted to avoid losing Conan by giving him the Tonight Show. How about that?

Conan's sense of humor and comedy style was never suited for the 11:30 time slot. Nor is his comedy broad enough to appeal to a wide audience such as The Tonight show is trying to attract. Why the suits at NBC couldn't understand that I don't know. Conan was perfect at 12:30 and Jay was great at 11:30. Why mess with that? Ask the suits at NBC! They had the best late night line-up on TV and for some reason chose to destroy it. NBC should let Conan go, put Jay back at 11:30 and use the money they save from letting Conan go to develop new scripted programming for the 10 PM slot.

Unfortunately, as someone recently pointed out to me, common sense just isn't very common anymore. (especially at NBC!!)

That was obvious from the moment they wouldn't get rid of Jeff Zucker.
