Today, November 19, marks the 40th anniversary of the airing of the first edition of The Benny Hill Show to be aired by Thames Television, starting an association that lasted 19½ years. This maiden edition (taped one week to the day after Monty Python's Flying Circus' debut) featured such now-classics as "The Lower Tidmarsh Hospital Service," "The Russian Zone," and the "European Song Contest." And he started off at his new home with a bang, finishing #1 for the week in the TV ratings.
