Many TV fans and all Trekkies know that there were two pilots filmed for "Star Trek" in 1965; however, a third pilot has been discovered and will be released on CBS Blu-Ray DVD Nov. 15, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The lost pilot was found by a German film collector and includes a different opening monologue, different music and alternate breaks in the action.

...the "third pilot" is actually the original, unaired version of the second pilot episode {"Where No Man Has Gone Before"}, submitted to NBC in February 1966, which finally sold "STAR TREK" to the network, before they insisted on several "edits" concerning dialogue {KIRK: (to Spock): Terrible, having bad blood like that...but you may learn to enjoy it someday} and Gene Roddenberry's decision to eliminate the "act" intertitles and use Alex Courage's original theme [as heard in pilot #1, "The Cage"] for the version that aired. Video copies of that pilot (duped from a well-worn 16mm film print and various generations of videocassette copies) have been circulated for years. Apparently, the recently discovered German film print is a better one, and that's the one CBS "remastered" for the new Blu-Ray release.
