'Balloon Boy' parents 'will plead guilty'
Thursday, November 12 2009, 16:23 GMT

By Lara Martin, US Correspondent

The parents who claimed that their young son had drifted away in a helium balloon will plead guilty to the charges against them, according to reports.

Richard and Mayumi Heene sparked a huge manhunt when they reported that 6-year-old Falcon had floated away in the balloon in October.

He was later discovered hiding in his parents' attic.

Mayumi's lawyer David Lane has claimed that she will admit false reporting to authorities and her husband will admit attempting to influence a public servant on Friday, says BBC News.

He added that Richard had agreed to admit the felony charge to prevent his wife, a Japanese national, being deported.

It is alleged that prosecutors have recommended probation but Richard could face up to 90 days in jail and Mayumi up to 60 days.

Authorities have suggested that the couple, who previously appeared on Wife Swap, staged the hoax to make their family more marketable for future TV projects

Yeah, the kid can't help it. I do hope that he can grow up to be not like his parents.
