Old Dogs

This police comedy-drama series centers around the follows the work of the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad (UCOS) and is the US version of the Brit show New Tricks. Led by Lieutenant Shannon Parker (Lisa Kudrow), the head of the unit and the only currently serving police officer who was previously an NYPD high flyer and a highly successful career woman until an incident involving the shooting of a dog during the rescue of a hostage (which becomes a running gag during the series). Following this incident, her career stalled and she was given the dubious honour of running UCOS against her will. An intensely ambitious and competitive woman, she has sacrificed most of her personal life in pursuit of her career and likes to be in absolute control of every situation, it is made up of retired police officers who have been recruited to reinvestigate unsolved crimes. The series title is taken from the popular expression "you can't teach an old dog new tricks", the "old dogs" in question being the retired detectives Jack Hamford (Robert Foxworth), Brian Lane (Keith Carradine) and Gordo Stanwick (Micahel Keaton). Despite everything, they always get the job done.

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
As punishment for messing up a kidnap rescue and shooting a dog in the process, Lieutenant Shannon Parker is assigned to the newly created unsolved murder squad. Due to a manpower shortage, her team is made up of veteran detectives seconded back into the police force who bring a 1970's attitude to modern policing rather than vice versa. The team's first case is to re-investigate a 20 year old murder conviction which has suddenly become unsafe due to police corruption. Sifting through the lies, dubious motives and the police cover up during the first investigation, the unorthodox methods of the dinosaur detectives eventually discover what really happened in 1989 clearing up two murders and an armed robbery in the process.

Ep2: Facing The Music:
The team reopen the case of a female rockabilly singer Rachel Russell who was found shot dead in her dressing room in 1963 when new evidence comes forth suggesting she wasn't killed in the place where her body was found. Despite the fact that Jack was the only member of the team who was a fan of hers, he descides to take the case when his former roommate Hal Peters (Peter Fonda) suggests that she didn't shoot herself.

Ep3: Army Games:
The team along with Detective Imelda 'Ginger' Dawson (Marcia Cross) investigate the unsolved murder of a World War 2 conscientious objector. In 1948, George Western was found in his living room with a nine-inch nail through his head. When his grandson Adam finds new evidence and organises a media campaign, the case is reopened. Then the body of elderly William Davis is found in similar circumstances and Brian uncovers the identical killing of Norman Taylor in 1961. The team discovers that Taylor and Western were in the same regiment during the war and trace surviving members to try to solve the murders.

Ep4: C'mon, I Tip Waitresses:
After a taxi driver reports a passenger who seriously gave him the creeps with his misogynistic views on women in 1985, Shannon decides to look into it and the trail leads her to Johnny Summerhill (Michael J. Fox), a dentist who had dated the first missing woman and had been dating the woman found a couple of days after the cabbie came in. Sam tries to investigate Summerhill's dark side and heads back to her old work place, where girls entertain men for money. Shannon's relationship with Gordo is threatened when Don shares some stories of the boys mis-spent teenage years and she wonders how accurate they are.

Ep5: Mommy Rules:
Shannon is shocked when the case of 2 sisters in 1993 is reopened. Jack, Brian and Gordo are startled when they heard the vicitms had an abusive mother who beat and hit them and their younger sister until she thought it was time to take them all out. One of the daughters was shot, burnt alive and thrown off the Brooklyn Bridge while the second daughter was starved, stuffed in a movie theatre box and thrown off the Brooklyn Bridge and the last daughter (Mila Kunis) decides to help them.

Ep6: Relentless:
In order to solve the shooting of an Italian-American gangster in 2003, Shannon and Gordo go undercover as a killer couple on the run and meet with the niece of the deceased (Rachel Bilson) and her boyfriend (Adam Brody) but things get out of hand when Brian, Eleanor, Detective Clark and Don get on their bad side leaving only Jack to stop them.

Ep7: Santa in the Slush:
Three days before Christmas, the team are sent to reinvestigate the death of a Santa Claus impersonator after his body was discovered in the sewer near a mall in 1999. Jack and Brian discovers the man's legal name was Kristopher Kringle and was highly regarded in his profession while he worked for a local "Rent-A-Santa" business. Meanwhile, Gerry and Sandra find themselves under a mistletoe and Sandra decides to spend Christmas with her mother (Tippi Hedren).

Ep8: Rock On:
When rock star Sparkles Fantastic (Ashley Tisdale) receives a death threat simular to that of rock vocalist Johnny Calhorn in 1989, Jack and Gordo are sent to provide her with police protection. Gordo later accompanies Sparkles and one of her groupies, Rocket Guy (Brady Corbet), to wait for her limosine but Sparkles is starled when Rocket Guy disappears. Jack also has to try and cover up his fling with Maria (Stockard Channing) before Brian figures out who his partner in the file room was.

Ep9: The One That Got Away:
Shannon and the team reinvestigate the tale of a mysterious hijacker who went by the name of Dan Cooper. While on board a flight to Seattle in 1971, he passed a note to a stewardess stating he was carrying a bomb. He then demanded $200,000 and four parachutes from officials before jumping from the plane and disappearing with the money.

Ep10: The Dark Defender:
Brian's son Mark (Justin Theroux) discovers that one of the men who murdered a mother in front of her son as a 5 year old boy in 1994 is still alive and is encouraged by UCOS to seek reopen the case while he confronts the kid's mother's killer Benny kenwright (Michael C. Hall). Shannon and Gordo investigate a homicide in a comic-book store while Jack warns Brian to not beat himself up to much.

Ep11: Cops on the Run:
An aspiring singer (Cameron Diaz) hires the team to reopen the case of her philandering husband who disappeared in 2005. Unbeknownst to him, jewel thieves hid a fortune in jewels in his truck cargo which he left with one of his several girlfriends and the thieves kidnap him to get the jewels back. Now Shannon must step in for the singer, and when she's kidnapped as well, Jack, Brian and Gordo must track her before her cover is blown.

Ep12: One of a Kind:
When the case of a police informant who was tortured and killed in 1993 is reopened in this season 1 finale, Shannon is convinced that a major scam is about to happen and wants UCOS to fire on all cylinders to prevent it. It's not long before Shannon's gut feeling is proved right as she, Jack, Brian and Gordo receive information that a gold bullion heist is about to take place – police officers are planning to intercept the robbers and steal the gold for themselves. Shannon knows this is her chance to try and put a stop to the corruption worming its way through the force. However, she needs to keep her eye on the ball if she wants to succeed.

Ep13: Collateral Damage:
UCOS are is assigned the murders of the thirteen women discovered in the cargo container from 1957 to 1964 in this season 2 permiere. Their new boss Captain Strickland offers to help and again ensures that the case goes back to Jack and Shannon's old homicide department.

Ep14: Sabotage:
The team receive a bomb warning claiming that terrorists have planted a car bomb in Manhattan parelling a bombing from 1979 which killed 10 people but Shannon realises the bomb warning reported doesn't fit with his understanding of terrorist methods. However, when her modern know-how fails and nearly kills Jack and Gordo, the rest of the department shun her line of investigation to focus on a socialist group.

Ep15: Suburban Hellraisers:
A fight between Jack and Lieutenant Gene Fox (Jon Cryer) leads Shannon and the team to the unsolved case of a young housewife in 1997. In order to obtain planning this case without one single screw up, Captain Strickland decides to blackmail the original suspect Claire Foxworth (Cynthia Nixon) and asks Gordo to seduce her - with dubious results while Brian dicovers the turth about the murder.

Ep16: Satan's Witches
With Gordo and Shannon working on another case, Jack and Brian head to Little Wysteria and are met with cold reception from the nearby townspeople particularly Brian's fomer colleague Randy Hazeldene (Jon Prescott). The cause of the people's fear soon becomes apparent when the pair find that they are neighbors in the woods to a coven full of Devil worshippers who plan to sacrafice Randy's wife Rebecca (Judy Greer).

Ep17: Murder in Brooklyn:
The team pair up with Lieutenant Horatio Caine (David Caruso) to solve the unsolved case of a student who fell from the Brooklyn Bridge in 2001. Meanwhile, the case of a serial rapist who wears a mask strikes at the heart of Shannon's personal and professional life when she is raped and Horatio leads the boys into finding the killer.

Ep18: Sent from Hell:
Shannon receives a threat on her life and Captain Strickland assigns Jack, Brian and Gordo to find out who did it and stop them before they can carry it out while solving the unsolved murder of a door to door saleman in 1964 and the dead man's wife (Tuesday Weld) thinks that he may he killed himself.

Ep19: Life in the Big Apple:
The unsolved case of Charlie Franklin, who was found in his car in Manhattan in 1985, is reopened. His wife Christina (Lea Thompson) seems indifferent to his death and he thought she was having an affair with Guy Sandys (Hugh Laurie), the editor of the Manhattan Life magazine. Other Manhattan Life employees include Grant Simpson (Tom Hanks), his sister Gina (Courtney Cox-Arquette) and Julia Benson (Melanie Griffith) all become suspects but Shannon thinks there's more than meets the eye.

Ep20: Under World:
The discovery of a skeleton deep underground in a mine shaft brings UCOS to an archeaology site in Coney Island. When the body is confirmed as a man missing for ten years, the team realise that they have a murder to investigate. Raking over the past proves difficult for the local population as old wounds are re-opened and old grievances come to the fore. As the investigation progresses, the acrimony increases and various relationships come under strain. As the team home in on the culprit, the locals take the law into their own hands with tragic consequences.

Ep21: Ghost's Forge:
An old friend of Jack's (Dirk Benedict) wants UCOS to reinvestigate a house called Ghosts Forge as his son (Robert Sean Leonard) is having an affair with a woman (Emily Deschanel) who keeps muttering about it in her sleep. Although married with a baby, she has no recollection of her father, who was found dead in the house in 1991, before a few years ago. Investigations reveal that the last owner of the house was found dead in 1991 and the place is now being rebuilt into flats. As Shannon and Gordo look into the woman's father's identity — their only clue being a package in the attic containing six books by a best-selling author — Jack and Brian take the opportunity to perform a disappearing trick of their own.

Ep22: Just Another Face in the Crowd:
Shannon finds a photo from the 1961 Biker Convension with Jack in the background and gives it to him for his birthday. However when Jack sees it, he identifies the man on his right as a Brooklyn Strangler victim from that very year so UCOS decide to reopen the case. However as Shannon and Gordo are still on the case, someone pulls a gun on them demanding the photo.

Ep23: Wrong Answer:
Shannon is followed back home after a night out with Captain Strickland and discovers that it was Morgan Davison (Mike Farrell) who attacked her which leads to a case in 1965 and thinks about leaving New York by going back to San Fransicso but UCOS talk her round as all the clues come together and everyone believes what happened the nights she was attacked in 1989 and 2009.

Ep24: Hypnotised:
A restaurant hypnotist (Brad Dourif) causes Gordo to relive a traumatic case in 1984 where he found a dead body which turned out to be a factory worker from Manhattan named Johnny Tyler who had disappeared under suspicious circumstances. Meanwhile, Shannon has a crush on the man who appears on the packaging of Burly paper towels.

Ep25: Hello, Sailor:
The team reopen the case of Navyman Anthony Cavanagh who was pucnhed to death by a stranger in 2005. Brian tries to figure out why his rivalry with his brother in law (Anson Williams) won't stop and Jack tries to get the truth.

Ep26: Unlucky Thirteen:
UCOS reopen the case of 12-year-old Ashley Pond who was on her way to catch a bus en route to school in 2002. Brian, Jack and Gordo discover that 2 months later after Ashley went missing, 13-year-old Miranda Gaddis disappeared in a similar matter in the Bronx. She too was on her way to school when she suddenly vanished.

Ep27: Mayhem:
The case of a 18 year old college student Becky Paris in 1988 is reopened when her younger sister Katie (Jennifer Aniston) discovers evidence that her sister did not commit suicide and both Shannon and Gordo suddenly realise that Strickland is acting suspiciously when asked if he loves her.

Ep28: Somewhere They Can't Find Me:
After being run over by a car in this season 2 finale, middle-aged housewife Marion Brolin (Demi Moore) is taken to hospital. There a blood sample taken matches that of Nicola, part of a revolutionary group who robbed a bank in 1981, killing a man and who was never caught. After Marion has gone on the run with former accomplice, ex-convict Mario, Deputy Inspector Thacker (Alan Ruck), the original investigating officer, reveals to the identity team that she is actually Sara Conway, an undercover cop who infiltrated the gang but is he as innocent as he seems and why is Marion so keen to help Mario elude the law? Captain Strickland, meanwhile, decides that this life might be for him and Shannon.

Ep29: This Charming Man:
The case of Jack Taylor, the charismatic young singer of local grunge band Sarcasm, who was found dead in his apartment in 1994 is reopened in this season 3 premiere. Shannon and the team soon discover that Jack had a fractious relationship with just about everyone he came into contact with. The band's manager (Emilio Estevez) had doubts about their new album and was trying to get an ex-member back on board and Jack's brother (Jason Lee) was not where he claimed to be that night and was Jack two-timing his girlfriend (Kathryn Morris)? The case also brings Shannon into conflict with Captain Strickland's nephew Joey (Shaun Sipos) - a fan of the band.

Ep30: Spring Breakdown:
With the help of Officer Cooper (Ashton Kutcher), UCOS work on solving three separate homicides that occurred during Spring Break vacation in 1993.

Ep 31: Respect My Authoritaaah!:
Shannon is called to an apartment in Manhattan where she discovers a dying teenager, identified as Liam Martin (Zac Efron), who has been stabbed by gang members which is similar to the 1997 murder of a 16 year old named Bobby James. Investigations into his murder lead the team to Jasmine Harris (Katie Holmes), a previous informant of Jack. Due to a lack of evidence, Captain Strickland is forced to release Brian, Jack and Gerry. Jasmine is discharged from hospital, and still refuses to give a statement. However, as the team sees fit to give up, Detective Eddie Burnette (Eminem) discovers that the gunshot fired was fired upwards and so possibly to alert passers-by and to stop the gang-rape.

Ep32: A Bullet for Gina:
A man might hold the key to the shooting of the new bride of former police officer Bill Miller (William Shatner) in 1962, who suspects that the shooter is an ex-con named Gantry (Ron Harper), who had previously threatened both him and a then 17 year old Jack.

Ep33: Always Buy Retail:
Someone is not just killing, but doing so ritualistically. Brian's knowledge of obscure rituals points to someone conducting a findsman's ritual; whatever he or she is doing, it's obvious that something has been lost and they want it back. However, trying to find the truth amid illegal immigrants and confusing facts tests the abilities and imaginations of the team.

Ep34: High Rollers:
When the team infiltrates a local casino to investigate the disappearance and presumed murder of a law-school student with a gambling problem in 1996 which was never fully solved, the case has a negative effect on Gerry who runs with his high-rolling cover a little too far. Meanwhile, Shannon gives Brian a hard time over the risks she is willing to take with their target, a no-excuses loan shark (James Denton).

Ep35: The Relentless Ones:
Jack, framed for Superintendant Kennedy's murder in 1986, chooses to run from the police until he can prove his innocence. He plots to take revenge on Ricky Hanson for both Kennedy's murder and for the murder of his late wife Macy in 2001 with the assistance of the rest of the team, Ricky's son Luke (Justin Timberlake) and Luke's ex Lynette Porter (Natalie Portman).

Ep36: Dead and Gone:
The remains of a small boy discovered in a wall by workmen are identified as those of Tommy Keegan who disappeared in 1987. A neighbour, Edward Connor (Martin Sheen), a suspected paedophile, was arrested then but released for lack of evidence. UCOS believe that Julia Mortimer (Connie Britton), who used to play with Tommy when they were children, is subconsciously suppressing her memories of the events of the time, and under regression hypnosis, names her estranged father Vernon not only as the killer but as a paedophile himself who molested her too.

Unstoppable is a 2010 American action thriller film directed by Tony Scott, written by Mark Bomback and starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. The film tells the story of a runaway.

Ep37: Brooklyn Confidential:
UCOS reinvestigates the death of Geoff Fallon, a stock car driver who was killed during a race at the local stadium when his car exploded due to a leaky fuel line in 2004. There seemed to be a considerable animosity with his brother (Nicholas Brennan), also a stock car driver but it turns that Fallon was convicted of killing a child with his car some years previously and the dead child's older brother was working at the stadium on the night in question. When a second person is killed, Jack determines that the case is far more complex than originally thought.

Ep38: Kids These Days:
Jack learns that his niece Katie (Demi Moore) is living with a middle-aged man and that a close friend has been duped into buying an expensive forged painting leading the team to reopen a simular case from 1978.

Ep39: Bad Blood Will Out:
The disappearance and death of a 13-year-old boy from 1986 inflames the local community as a teacher becomes the prime suspect but Gordo begins to have doubts about the teacher's guilt and attempts to convince Shannon that the truth is more important than a mere result that seems to fit.

Ep40: She's the Man:
The detectives search for a cross-dressing killer from 1992 while a sexual assault victim fears her husband will blame the attack on her provocative style of dress. Jack's fear of dentists is interrupted when a doctor threatens to commit suicide.

Ep41: Funny Money part 1:
When UCOS arrive at a garage, they find Al (Freddie Prinze Jr) finishing up repairs on a hearse - in whose casket is contained thousands of dollars in counterfeit money. Jack recognizes the funeral home that owns the hearse is a front for illegal movement of counterfeit money and Brian decides to reopen a similar case from 1995. Later, Jack, Brian and Gordo uncover the mastermind behind the counterfeiting ring, a flamboyant heavyset criminal known as Candy Man (John Goodman) for his obsessive indulgence in chocolate. Brian overhears Candy Man lamenting that UCOS has found his counterfeit loot and vows to kill them. Brian manages to sneak out of the funeral home but Jack and Gordo are grabbed by Candy Man's henchmen (Topher Grace and Jimmy Fallon).

Ep42: Funny Money part 2:
Al has survived the explosion by getting behind a large metal filing cabinet. He & Brian then return to Brian and Elenor's home. With the help of Elenor, Strickland and Shannon, they devise a way to not only rescue Jack and Gordo but to foil the Candy Man & his henchmen once and for all. By having a fake ceremony for the late UCOS!

Ep43: Catch Me if You Can:
Several residents of New York are faced with deadly threats; Strickland is held captive by the deranged Sean Gallagher (Pierce Brosnan) who physically tortures him for information as to Shannon's whereabouts... and what happened to her alter ego Kathleen Maguire. A blonde woman called Emma turns up on Gordo's doorstep and thinks that he might be her father. Brian and Eleanor get engaged again and have that ceremony in the form of a block party on Wisteria Lane. Meanwhile, Jack is angry with Lieutenant Richardson (Timothy Olyphant) when he tells him that Ricky Hanson ran his late wife Macy down. Also, Shannon's secret about her past is finally revealed after Sean takes her and Eleanor hostage in her office.

Ep44: Momma Shannon:
Shannon gets her mother a nurse to look after her when she's at work in this season 3 finale, all doesn't go to plan when the murder case of a French foreign exchange student named Marie DuBois from 1999 is reopened when Jack and Gordo fall out over the way the case should be handled. Shannon reveals that she has become the temporary legal guardian to a 16 year old called Lacey (Miley Cyrus). Lacey tells UCOS about her life growing up and decides to help them in their case.

Ep45: Gone Daddy Gone:
Shannon discovers that her late father may have a hand in the mob-run docks where a female worker was killed in 1974 in this season 4 opener. Jack and Gordo try to duck sensitivity training while Brian starts hanging with Officer Tommy Rizolli (Johnny Knoxville).

Ep46: The Trouble with Kids:
The death of an 8 year old boy from 1979 is reopened and his friend Jermaine Longworth (Sean Combs) blames himself for his death; he is very distraught as an adult. Jack and Brian think that the mother (Laurie Metcalfe) was the responsible party for this but she tries to put the blame elsewhere.

Ep47: Devil or Angel:
UCOS comes across a strange case from 1977 where a woman not only predicted her own murder but also gave a description of the murderer. Shannon smells something fishy and investigates the probability that not all predictions are made in total truth. A sudden turn of events and a crazy physic (Dwight Schultz) similar past case could help uncover what really happened. Meanwhile, can Shannon persuade the boys that the case had nothing to do with voodoo spirits?

Ep48: Only 16:
The 1959 case of a teenage girl found dead in her school with her wrists slashed while a man was tied to a tree and shot dead in the woods nearby is reopened. Shannon and Lieutenant Holloway (Don Most) lead separate investigations. Is there a connection?

Ep49: You've Got Visitors:
When the death of a human rights defence lawyer Richard Warner from 1980 is reopened, Shannon suspects that it could be a possible suicide. However, Jack has other ideas. When Brian finds the pee of illegal immigrant Joseph Marcell, a victim of a miscarriage of justice, in his toilet, Shannon begins to suspect a case of revenge after Marcell was deported back to France for a crime he did not commit in 1981. It soon transpires that Marcell was not the only visitor that night - Sarah Haines (Pam Grier), a fellow colleague and secret partner and the man's brother Rob (Tim Roth), however, when Gordo discovers that the man was in the advanced stages of dementia, Shannon's suicide theory begins to look more likely.

Ep50: Absent Friends:
When the deaths of Brooklyn couple Linda and Peter Jarvis in 1999 is reopened, Shannon is asked to look for clues whilst the boys are struggling to answer a very important question. Brian and Eleanor decide to go to London for a week and ask Jack and Gordo to look after their dog Scampi and when they discover that Scampi may be the father to police dog Jess's puppies, it leads to a close bond.

Ep51: Telling Tales:
Sentenced for the murder of Abby, the 17 year old daughter of her lover Keith Mantel (Tim Allen) in 1995, Jeannie Long escapes from prison and kills herself. News of her death brings evidence that shows she was innocent as she had long claimed and Shannon reopens the case. At a charity event where Keith pays tribute to Jeannie, Chris Winter, son of Jeannie's probation officer Robert (David Hasselhoff), is murdered, having tried to contact Inspector Caroline Fletcher (Julie Kavner) who arrested Jeannie and later had an affair with Keith. As Abby was a friend of the Winters, Shannon suspects Chris was the killer but comes to realise that he was the witness, attempting to cover up for the real murderer. When Keith is attacked after exposing the secret of another family member UCOS now know that the Winters are shielding one, if not two, murderers.

Ep52: Sweet Science:
Jack learns that the sons of a criminal gunned down in 1992 are following in their father's footsteps when UCOS reopens the man's unsolved murder but Ricky Hanson has other ideas.

Ep53: The Saints of UCOS:
Jack, Brian and Gordo find doing charitable work thrilling and begin to explore it by donating to a local charity in honor of its murdered founder Tim McNamara in 2000 while Shannon finds unlikely companionship with Lieutenant Malcolm Ross (Brad Pitt).

Ep54: Toodle Ooo, Jackass:
After a 10-year stint in prison, mobster Johnny Delfino (Micky Dolenz) is released from jail and asks UCOS to reopen the case of a prison guard shortly after his arrival but his lack of understanding of how things work since he went to prison causes friction between him and Jack.

Ep55: The Jazz Singer:
A popular uniform cop (David Deluise) who was bodyguarding a local Italian crooner in 2003 says the crooner was shot to death by two men but UCOS find themselves in serious conflict with Captain Strickland as this story produces more and more questions egged on by a bully of a sergeant (Eric Allen Kramer).

Ep56: Family Guy:
UCOS travel to New Jersey to reopen the murder of a man who, outwardly happily married, was discovered in the river with his shoe laces tied together in 1999 suggesting suicide.

Ep57: Three Steps to Hell
