Sure it spent most of its run in the 90s, but it started in 1989, so its technically an 80s sitcom.

No it's a 90's sitcom. It only spent 4 months in the 1980's.

The Brady Bunch is a 70s sitcom though it began in 1969.

Think of it like this, a kid born in the late 80s doesn't think of themselves as an 80s kid since they grew up in the 1990s.

I was born in the late 80s and I consider myself a semi 80s kid. :D

1 year, 4 months, 1 day...it still started in the 80s ;)

Heck, I was born in 1965 and I consider myself a 70's kid. I hardly remember anything from the 1960's.

Who cares if it started in 1989. Just because it aired 4 months in the latter part of 1989 makes this an 80s sitcom? What if it aired for the first four months in 2000s, too? It aired until 1998....that is 8 years in the 90s. This is a 90s sitcom, not 80s. Most of its run was in the 90s, not 80s. There is no debating it.

A better debate would be something like Three's Company...which started in 77 and aired 3 years in the '70s and the first four years in the '80s.

Yea TC can be considered both. It had it's peak years in the 70's and is most associated with that decade but ran for more years in the 80's.

That's exactly how it is for me; born in 1985 but I'm a full 90s kid.

I don't remember much from the 80s and nothing there stood out for me. I'm a 90s kid since I connected with that time period; I have no "bond" with the 80s.

Absolutely nothing from the 80s stood out to you?

Gosh, where do I begin?

The television shows and movies (Ghostbusters, Do The Right Thing, Die Hard, Scarface, Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Color Purple, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Terminator, Beetlejuice, The Smurfs, Inspector Gadget, Reading Rainbow, Golden Girls, Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Muppets, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons, The Wonder Years, The Cosby Show) the music (Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Whitney Houston, etc) the styles, etc.

I know these few things do very little justice to the whole decade of the 1980s, and can think of hundreds more, but its late...

What I meant was as a kid growing up that little of the 80s interested me.

I wasn't into Die Hard, Scarface, Terminator, Do The Right Thing... as a kid. Only exception is Freddy Krueger. I love them all now but as a kid growing up I wasnt into that.

Also I'm not into Prince, Madonna, Whitney Houston, even Michael Jackson; I never liked much of their music so that had no effect on me.

Yes, it's a 90s sitcom, even though it started in 1989, as most of it was made and first shown in the 90s. "Roseanne" is a 90s sitcom too, even though it started in 1988. In the same way, "The Cosby show" is considered an 80s show, even though it didn't end until 1992.

I agree, FM is a 90's sitcom.

I suppose Saved By The Bell is a 90s show too than.

SBTB is a 90's sitcom. Most people remember it from the 90's. Heck I was a teen when it came out and I think of it as a 90's sitcom.

Not a good example ;)

I think that it can be considered both. It aired in both the 80's and 90's so technically both are right.

It is a 90's sitcom. Sitcoms that started in the mid 80's and ended in early
90's are called 80's sitcoms. You round it.

I'm sure if you are the dumbest poster in the history of Sitcomsonline or if this is the dumbest post of Sitcomsonline. I think it's both

The show started in the fall of 89 and that's what 4 months?

I think "Family Matters" is a 90's Sitcom. Just like I feel that "Garfield and Friends" is a 90's cartoon.

Why not use another series a an example? Bonanza ran from 1959 to 1973. As it was on for the entire '60s, and relatively little in other decades, I consider it a 1960s series. It would be just wrong to call it a 1950s show as only a few months were spent in the '50s. That's an extreme example, but I think FM also should be considered a '90s show as so little of the work appeared in the '80s. Saved by the Bell is also a '90s show.

Why so hostile? Its not that serious at all. You can disagree but you don't have to say that.

What about The Love Boat? It started its run in 1977 and ended in 1986. Most of its run is in the 80s, so it should be an 80s sitcoms, though its better days were in the 70s, so it's in the 1970s sitcoms section of the forum instead of the 1980s sitcoms section.
