View Full Version : Life Goes On
Mary Covey 03-14-2001, 10:03 PM I read about the show in the Complete Directory To Primetime Network and Cable TV Shows (aka "my tv book") and it sounded good. About a guy with Downs Syndrome. Aired from 1989-1993 on Sunday nights (opposite 60 minutes). It really does sound good. I know it's not a sitcom, but still, it's a family drama. Does anybody remember it or has seen it and liked it? I want to know if any body has it on tape, if it's on video, or if it's in reruns. Thanks!

Madness 03-14-2001, 11:09 PM Yeah, I remember it. It was pretty good. A little boring at times to me though. But overall a nice family show on Sunday nights. Not too many of them left!
coily2 03-15-2001, 07:01 PM Life goes on, with Corky? Yeah, I remember it, vaguely. Wasn't Tracy Needham of Division Fame on it for awhile as Corky's girlfriend?
Mary Covey 03-15-2001, 08:15 PM She sure was. Tracey played the second Paige. Oh yeah, I forgot, the show ran on ABC.

I certainly remember the show. I have watched a few episodes. They are currently rerunning the show here in Scandinavia on TVNorge (a Norwegian satellite station owned by ABC in the US), I believe itīs on early on Saturdays and Sundays (around 11:00 AM), if someone happens to live in Scandinavia here!

Paige was Corky's sister, not girlfriend.
80skid 04-04-2001, 03:58 PM OMG! Just had to bump this up because I was in advisory this afternoon (I have advisories at my school) and my advisor mentioned it! We were talking about FOL (one of our favorite topics, hehe) and my advisor told us all about "Life Goes On" and I thought I had heard that somewhere! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
I'll stop rambling -- but very ironic! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
FaithForever5981 12-27-2001, 02:53 PM I used to love that show. I watched it every Sunday night.
Daydreamer18 02-18-2002, 01:58 AM I remember Life Goes On! I watched some of the episodes when it reran on PAX network.... I've tried to talk PAX into reshowing it, maybe some of you would send them an email or letter? hint hint.... I really love it, it was different because you don't normally find shows dealing with this kind of family problem on TV... one of a kind and an excellent show!
disturbed child 02-19-2002, 05:51 PM Oh I lerbed Life Goes On! Kellie Martin is my absolute favorite actress. She played Rebecca (Becca) Thatcher who was dating Chad Lowe's character with AIDS Jesse McKenna. Very wonderdul show!!!!!
DetectiveGriffin 03-09-2002, 08:27 AM I used to watch it when it was on, and it was a good show. As it progressed it became almost exclusively about Corky's down syndrome and Jesse's HIV. Still a good show - afterschool special quality about it. It is showing on canada's CTS family network, along with stuff like Mr. Belvedere, Growing Pains, and Happy Days. If you want it bad, you should have too hard a time finding a canadian trader. I have had very good luck with those adorable canadians!
Bootsy Whoosh 03-09-2002, 04:16 PM I used to love Life Goes On when it was on. That was the show that really got me into liking Kellie Martin. It could be boring sometimes (mostly when they focused on the parents IMO) but it was an interesting and unique show that dealth with issues often ignored on TV.
ClassicTV4Ever 08-01-2003, 07:47 PM I really miss Life Goes On. It was one of my favorite shows :)
80s90sFanatic 08-04-2003, 07:59 PM I used to also watch "Life Goes On" and I loved the show. I miss it alot. I didn't kno that Tracey Needham played the second Paige on the show until I looked it up.
CD DeLorenzo 08-07-2003, 05:56 PM OMG! I just found this board! Yeah Tracey was on it from season 2 on. Unfortunately I have only seen a few eps so far but I really loved those. I would love to see more. Back when it aired here in germany we didn't have a satellite dish so I never got to see it. But I got a few eps from ebay once. Now I really want more. I loved Tracey in this. And for all the Division fans... Dusty (Troy Evans) had a guest role too. He played a guy who had the hots for Paige lol.
Here's some Life Goes On promo pics :)

CD DeLorenzo 08-11-2003, 04:11 AM Yeah! Totally. Tracey Needham once said something similar about him.
TN (on hoping 'Life Goes On' would teach people not to have prejudices): "When people watch someone with a handicap on this show, and they can see he's normal, it will make them let their guard down so they can relate to it. It becomes more familiar, then it's not so scary. You can put yourself in that situation. Everyone has had some battle, something they've had to work against, that they can relate it to."
mstewart 09-20-2003, 06:30 PM Life Goes On was very good especially in the first two seasons. When season three got started the show degenerated into the whole Becca and Jesse soap opera. It took the feel away from the show. Overall the show was the first of its kind dealing with Down's Syndrome.
Pug Lover 11-18-2003, 11:00 PM I absolutely loved this show. When the series was still in production,I recall an advertisement that read'you,ll laugh, you,ll cry, you,ll fall in love'.They weren,t kidding. My feeling excactly. The show was almost like a tv series version of the movie Stand By Me.Heart filling. My two favourite characters were Corky and Jesse.I almost cried at the end of the episode where Jesse reveals to Becca that he,s HIV positive. And I loved the slow dance number Becca and Jesse did to Bob Seger,s hit tune We,ve Got Tonight. To this day,I think of that song as Becca and Jesse,s ballad.I really cried when Corky broke down over not having had the chance to bid Tyler farewell, after Tyler had been killed in a car cra*****his series is a classic with me.I wonder why it only went from 1989 until 1993?It was a pretty short series.
factsoflife 11-23-2004, 08:41 PM I think the ratings were the reason it got canceled. it was a critical su ccess, but the ratings were moderate to sub-par, to say the least. it was a show that really struggled in the ratings. i'm actually surprised it lasted from 89-93, four years is a long time for a ratings challenged show. i'd love to see this show again.
PrettyinPink55 02-25-2005, 03:04 PM I LOVED Life Goes On!!! Although I was really young when I watched it, I still remember how wonderful a show it was!!! I would love to see it back on television!!!!!!!!! :)
Dopa dee dopa da, life goes on oh...... ;)
Tap Dancer 01-23-2011, 01:36 PM I miss Life Goes On. I'm grateful to have the first season DVD, but I do wish they'd release the last three seasons already. I doubt it'll ever be on TV again. I used to watch the show every Sunday evening when it was on.
catlover79 01-23-2011, 05:57 PM I loved Life Goes On, and faithfully watched it every Sunday evening and then would stick around for America's Funniest Home Videos. Ah, those were the days. :D Anyway, I was told I looked like Kellie Martin's Becca all the time. I think I can see the resemblance. This photo was taken of me when I was in 8th grade, and I think LGO would've just ended. In fact, at the time this school picture was taken, KM was probably already filming Christy (which is my all-time favorite KM project). In fact, I call the red glasses I have here my "Becca" glasses.
