The title says it all, but I just got a couple quiz show-type things on video like "Take a GOOD look" hosted by Ernie Kovacs and "The Pantomime Quiz" which are great b/w shows.

The oldest game show I remember watching from premiere to finale is Scrabble but the oldest show I know all the rules to is Match Game '7x

I was born in '86, so, the oldest game show i remember is Family Feud with host Ray Combs. He's a great host, but i was never a huge fan of that show.

I was born in '90 and remember me and mom Supermarket Sweep and Debt on Lifetime.
But when Shopping Spree premeired we watched that alot too.

This dates me, but I still can remember--unfortunately--Jack Bailey shouting: "Would you like to be Queen for a Day?" "Queen for a Day."

I remember Davidson HS and TPiR from VERY early on...

The oldest one i can remember was The Orginal Price is Right with Bill Cullen as the host. But the one i remember the most in my lifetime since i was born in 1981, is the price is right with bob barker and The damn pyramid shows and Family feud with Ray Combs

DEBT really was a good gameshow. It was good becuase the idea was unique. It really really was a good idea, not motivated by greed or a simple desire to get rich, just to get back on your feet.

I'm 47 years old....the furthest back I can remember seeing any "current" game shows, is 1) "Who Do You Trust", hosted by Johnny Carson....& 2), "Beat The Clock", hosted by Bud Collyer.

Does anyone remember the kids' version of Hollywood Squares
they used to have,also hosted by Peter Marshall of the old
Hollywood Squares,that aired on Saturday afternoons and the
celebrities would dress up as story book or Bible characters?

The oldest game show that I remember watching on television was "What's My Line?".

Gee, I'm not sure. Either Davidson's HS or Combs FF. I used to watch alot of reruns in syndication (Name that Tune and Let's Make a Deal on The Family Channel and PYL on USA) but those two were first I think.

As I was born in 1959, I would have to say I was practically raised on the original NBC “Concentration” with Hugh Downs.

Although there were bookoo network game shows back in the 60s, I didn’t pay attention to any show but the above. That being said, I remember asking mom and dad for home games of other TV game shows, whatever was available, despite me not knowing how to play them. I had a few—-but I would almost without fail get a home Concentration game every year.

Honorable mention:

My 3 year old mind recalled a game show called “Hole in One,” which ran on channel 10 in Miami. I found out a little more about it as I did some research:

(1) it was a local show only,
(2) Jack Barry was emcee,
(3) it ran only 3 months spring 1962,
(4) it was a word game, with some golf-style arcade game as the major prop.*

Nothing has survived on it outside of a publicity photo from a Sunday Miami News. Likely on newspapers dot com, but the pic is grainy.

[*I only wish there was more info on it—I doubt any video survived, unless the Barry estate could be contacted. I know today that Jack was trying to get back in the game business after the horrible scandals. Jack also owned WGMA radio (now WLQY) in Hollywood FL at the time.]

Born in 1974 and the oldest games shows I remember watching were TPIR with Barker and FF with Dawson.

I've seen a lot of old ones on GSN years ago when they showed them, but the oldest one, I think, is What's My Line?, which started in 1950.

I don’t think that any game shows from the 1940’s have been preserved/are on YT, but this video is a treat. YMMV. It’s a sample of TV in 1947/48.

At 31:42 of the video is the closest thing to a game/quiz show. Bert Parks is featured. There is a drawing that today is offensive, but keep in mind it was a product of those times.

Yes, that first WML is on kinescope and has been on GSN and is probably on Youtube. Only a few of the first couple of years were kept on film, until Goodson-Todman made arrangements to kinescope them.

After a few years they were routinely filmed by CBS, and the majority of the 876 mostly-live shows were kept. When videotape came in a few years later, some shows were videotaped; for instance, the panel and host routinely took August off. Still, the tapes were wiped or reused and the preservation was on kinescope until the show's end in 1967. The 1966-67 season was in color, but the kinescopes were black and white; thus, those color broadcasts are gone forever.

I sometimes wonder if people living in the year 2074 , 50 years in the future will be watching the shows that we were currently seeing that were on 50-70 years ago. Or shows that are on today. .Do think someone from 2074 will be interested in What's my Line or to Tell the Truth filmed in the 1950's. Also another question where were most games shows filmed in the 1950-1970's. Was Garry Moore's To Tell the Truth filmed in NY.

TBH, even in 2024, it’s a curiosity, watching what’s on BUZZR, with not only a majority of the celebrities no longer with us, but also references to past trivial events that only those up in years (read: me) would “get.”

Also, BUZZR routinely will mute a word or two that would not fly in our vernacular today, as being un-PC.

Back in 2010 I wanted to go to the Paley Center in NYC as I had a checklist of sorts of game shows I wanted to see; unfortunately I was way too late to go. Now with YouTube, some of the shows I wanted to see have indeed been seen!

One thing about game shows that SOME celebrities that were on them never understood: the GAME is the star, not them. Paula Poundstone, are you reading? :) Some like Betty White, Tony Randall, and Jamie Farr* knew that, and kinda rooted for their contestant partner.

When I watch a show, I ask myself, is there or is there not a “play along” factor? I want to match my wits at home. “Concentration” is high on the list for me. And although I am not crazy about “Wheel of Fortune,” it also has that play-along feature that has kept it going lo all these decades.

OTOH, What’s My Line? has virtually NO play-along factor, yet was quite entertaining. Note in the Daly years how to-the-nines the panel was dressed. It was treated like a banquet. Nice to see on YouTube at a more convenient time than at 10:30pm Sunday night on CBS!

All in all to summarize, just like any other classic TV show, I treat it as a fun history lesson.
