Law & Order: CI is undergoing yet another staffing change.

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio has been cast as the show’s new captain, sources confirm to me semi-exclusively. She replaces Eric Bogosian, who is the latest CI vet to depart as the show shifts its focus to Jeff Goldblum and new partner Saffron Burrows.

As I previously reported, Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Bogosian will exit after appearing in the show’s two-part season 9 premiere. Rumor has it one of the three will be carted off in a body bag.

I know! When D'Onofrio leaves, I'm gone too.

For the first few years, it was just him and Kathryn Erbe. Then Chris Noth was brought on part-time when D'Onofrio had his breakdown and couldn't handle a full season.

Now, Noth is gone and with D'Onofrio leaving and Erbe going with him, it won't be the same on Criminal Intent.

I haven't seen Goldblum on the show, but with Bogosian leaving also, I dunno. I liked the original boss, but Bogosian did a good job as a replacement character.

But D'Onofrio and Erbe are the cornerstones of that show -- the end of era, truly.

I've tried to watch the episodes with Jeff Goldblum and I haven't been able to get through one. They just don't grab me.
