View Full Version : McDonalds: A 50 Piece McNugget & a Five-10 Piece Aren't the Same Thing
Zoneboy 11-01-2009, 06:51 PM This didn't happen in Florida, It actually happened to me earlier today. For the past few weeks, I've been playing the Monopoly game at McDonalds which is scheduled to end tomorrow.
When I visit my girlfriend who lives in another city, We sometimes go to McDonalds and get a 50 piece mcnugget and always ask for 5-10 count boxes in order to get the game pieces. We've had no problems with this whatsoever but today my local McDonalds tried to tell me that a 50 piece and 5-10 count pieces were not the same thing.
Prior to the Monopoly game, This location always packed them that way when I requested it. I had to wait for the mcnuggets to be cooked and when they were brought to me, They were just thrown in a box. I told her that when I placed the order that I wanted them in 5 boxes with 10 each. Her reply was that I didn't buy 5 of the 10 piece boxes.
I sat there literally dumbfounded, I said the last time I was in school, 5 x 10 = 50. She said I was right and went back inside and corrected the mistake. She came back and handed me the bag and upon inspecting it, I saw that there were no game pieces on any of the boxes. I told her it still wasn't right and that I was making the purchase in order to obtain the game pieces.
I had already been waiting over 25 minutes and wasn't the least bit thrilled about what was going on. She went and got the manager who informed me that they could give me the mcnuggets in the 5 separate boxes but I would have to pay full price for each one if I wanted the game pieces. I informed her that the rules say no purchase necessary and that I would be calling the home office Monday morning.
I told her that this was the only location that wanted to give me an issue about it. The total for my order was $15.80 and instead of making a sale, The Manager offered to give me my money back just to avoid giving me the boxes with the game pieces. By this time the mcnuggets and the fries were almost cold so I opted for the refund.
I went to the other location about 4 miles across town and ordered the same thing and had no problems at all. Other than a couple of medium size fries, I didn't win anything and the main reason I'm getting the game pieces is to play the online game. I probably wouldn't have fared any better at the first location but they lost a sale so I guess we both came out even.
OH Nuts! 11-01-2009, 07:03 PM Well, according to their old jingle "you deserve a break today" - but you certainly didn't get one at that birdbrained first store. Glad you had better luck w the 2nd! (In NYC I've never seen 50 pc sets only 4,6.9 & 20. Good luck w the game!
You should've gone to Burger King, where you can "Have It Your Way".

I can't have it my way at BK. I usually order the bacon double cheeseburger with heavy pickles. It normally comes with just 2 and their definition of heavy is 3 and that's all they'll give me.
robyrob 11-01-2009, 07:31 PM i swear they train them to be ******* there - i usually order a 20-piece, and quite often get attitude from them while they explain to me that, contrary to what it says on the menu I'm staring at, they only come in 10-piece packs. So then I ask if there is any way possible that they could bend the rules and just give me TWO 10-piece packs....

I used to order 20 piece McNuggets all the time, but lately they've been McNugget Nazi's, too. :(
DOES NOT EVERY DOG HAVE HIS DAY?
Mr. Television 11-01-2009, 08:41 PM McDonalds is run by idiots. Everytime I go there, they mess up my order. They're the only fast food place that does that.
Courtnee 11-01-2009, 08:49 PM Quick question. Do they have special boxes that they put big orders of McNuggets in (50+) or do they divide them up in the regular boxes? Because if they just divide them up, why not just stick them in the box with the stickers?
catlover79 11-01-2009, 10:40 PM HUH?????
spunkygirl 11-01-2009, 10:46 PM I didn't even know that there was such a thing as 50 piece McNugget's. Where I live they come in 4, 6, 10 and 20 piece.
Sucks you had that problem. That manager definitely deserves to lose his job for being an idiot.

They have a large size box or bucket for the 50 piece and they sometimes use the 10 piece boxes. It probably depends on what's available at the time. They've given me the 10 piece boxes many times without my asking for them.
Courtnee 11-01-2009, 11:00 PM You can order them in any increment of 10. No matter where you go.
catlover79 11-01-2009, 11:28 PM What? No photo/quote, Charles??
Schmoopie 11-02-2009, 12:52 AM Good Lord! A 50 piece McNugget? Talk about a fried food overload! I got a ten piece chicken nugget meal at Wendy's tonight and I felt guilty afterwards. I haven't tried those "new" McNuggets, the ones that are supposed to be all white meat, but I bet that Wendy's are a thousand times better.

dakert 11-02-2009, 03:12 AM Why would anyone waste their time at McDonalds??

I wasted 30 minutes of mine for some game pieces.

I was thinking of the TV commercial jingle from the early 1970s..."Have it your way, have it your way, have it youuuuuuuur way at Burger King".
Guess not.

Did you win anything?
Zoneboy 11-02-2009, 10:55 AM Did you win anything?

Waterston_Fan 11-02-2009, 11:21 AM I don't think I can eat fifty pieces of chicken mcnuggets...
Zoneboy 11-02-2009, 11:38 AM I don't think I can eat fifty pieces of chicken mcnuggets...
I'm about tired of them myself, I can only eat about 20 or so and the rest go in the fridge.
ekkostar 11-05-2009, 08:37 PM It baffles me as to why McDonalds doesn't have onion rings. Onion Rings are so much better than McNuggets and fries.

Good point, I love Hardees' onion rings, Much better than Burger King's.

so... did you complain to corporate? - I am interested to hear exactly what the manager did with the missing game pieces.

So am I!
Marvo301 11-05-2009, 10:49 PM I can't help but think of an old McDonalds jingle. "You, you're the one. You are the only reason. You, you're the one. That we take pride in pleasing." My how times have changed. Obviously customers no longer come first at McDonalds. And obviously they no longer take pride in their customer service.
Zoneboy 11-05-2009, 11:39 PM so... did you complain to corporate? - I am interested to hear exactly what the manager did with the missing game pieces.
I called Monday and I received a call the next day from the owner/manager of the location in question. She seemed upset over what happened and told me that the shift manager at that time was in training and wasn't aware that the boxes with the game pieces could also be given to the customers who ordered the 50 piece mcnugget at the discounted price. She said she wasn't trying to make excuses for her and that I should've been given the boxes and not told I would have to pay extra.
She offered to refund the $15.80 plus give me a free order of 50 mcnuggets and the 10 game pieces that I was cheated out of. I very politely told her thanks but no thanks and let her know that I wouldn't be satisfied with that and that I would be taking it up again with the home office. I called them again Wednesday and someone from the Dept. that oversees the Monopoly game is supposed to get back to me asap. The reason I'm even pursuing this is because I was told I would have to pay extra to get the game pieces. I'll keep you updated as much as possible, I'm hoping that corporate will offer me something more than a refund and free meal.

No offense, but the manager is trying to make amends. I guess I don't see the point of pursuing if it it like she said and the shift manager was in training. People do make mistakes.
What more are you holding out for? I mean she offered your money back and free game pieces.
Zoneboy 11-06-2009, 02:14 PM What more are you holding out for? I mean she offered your money back and free game pieces.
I'm holding out for a lot more than that, What that Mgr did was illegal, She basically offered to sell me the game pieces by telling me I would have to pay extra for them. Right now she's in serious trouble with McDonalds. I'm not expecting any monetary gain from this but I do think they can offer me something better than what they already have. I'm the one in the right here, not them.

Keep us posted, Charles! I hope you get your prizes.
spunkygirl 11-06-2009, 07:32 PM You are in the right, that I don't disagree with, but people do make mistakes. Sure the guy could have handled it differently, and should have called in another manager and let them know what the situation was if he was unsure about what he was supposed to do.
I guess I can just see both sides. Maybe he didn't realize what he did was illegal. I doubt it was deliberate.
He should face some kind of consequences and you deserve an apology, your money back and whatever else you might want(maybe a couple of free meals down the line or something as well).

I'd love to have the Boardwalk stamp  but of course I wouldn't expect that. I may just go ahead and accept what they've already offered. The girl wasn't aware that the Monopoly pieces could be given to customers who request the 5-10 piece boxes when ordering 50.
