Since we've all (I hope!) had a chance to watch Season 5 by now, I thought we should have a thread to discuss our fave moments/episodes. I have to say my favorite would have to be "Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcaster's School." The scene of the gang teaching a class to one student is classic. And seeing it on DVD, uncut, is even better than it was in reruns. I also love "You Try to Be a Nice Guy," for the scene w/ Mary in the green dress. Ted's reaction is just too funny. I know "The System" has been mentioned in a previous thread, but I can't leave it out here. The idea of Ted gambling is just too funny. "A New Sue Ann" is great, b/c I love any Sue Ann ep, but I also thought it was great how they connected it to what was happening on Rhoda at the time.

I'll cut my list off here so I don't end up rambling. I'm sure I'll think of one I should've included as soon as I post this. It happens every time I do a thread like this!

Season 5 gets off to a great start with "Will Mary Richards Go To Jail?",I love Sue-Anne's total disregard for Mary's feelings,"When you get out if you get out!"
Great guest appearance be the late Barbara Colby as Sheery in that episode, who returns in the episode "You Try To Be A Nice Guy",Georgette cracks me up when she innocently says "This trick!".
Phyllis bows out this season before getting her spinoff series "Phyllis" and she's as scene stealing as ever,"Not Just A Pretty Face",sees Phyllis totally bowled over by Mary's handsome boyfriend,I love her telling Mary, that when Lars asked her to marry her,she went abroad to think about it,"..at the time it seemed important".
"Menage-A-Phyllis" sees Phyllis miffed at her platonic friend's attraction to Mary, love it when Phyllis confronts Mary "Ok cutie",then admits how pathetic she (Phyllis)is by trying to pretend Mike was attracted to Phyllis.
Phyllis' last regular appearance on the show is "Phyllis Whips Inflation",which is a dry run of the "Phyllis" pilot,I loved the world weary woman in the employment Agency:"Honey its been a long day don't bust my chops".
(I hope we get Phyllis on DVD soon)
Its nice to see Bess and Marie Slaughter back this season,I don't like the episode "I Love A Piano",just doesn't seem in Murray's character to think of having an affair although we know he always loved Mary.
Ted Knight is hilarious too "The System",when Ted goes on Mary's balcony in a heavy snow shower after Lou loses the money they made,"An Affair To Forget",Ted making up a romance with Mary, love the awkward kiss,Mary gives Ted to get rid of him, office gossip nearly ruines a romance for Lou in "Lou and That Woman",when Lou can't handle the fact his girlfriend Charlene, has known a few men in her life,as always with this show,as well as laughs, you get real heartfelt moments too.
Betty White is a welcome additon to the cast as the "smiling cobra" Sue-Ann,her terrible revenge on Gloria(Linda Kelsey)in "A New Sue-Ann" and I love the fact she tells Mary shes been smiling so long for TV she doesn't know when shes doing it in "A Girl Just Like Mary".
We also see a stronger Mary Richards this season, now shes a producer,no Rhoda around,Mary still stutters but when pushes comes to shove, shes a bit more pluckier now.
Great season and unedited,no hassle of putting old vhs recordings on to DVD because the DVD episodes aren't edited like the "Rhoda" DVD set, roll on season 6!

I finished watching last night. I loved all the episodes, but my favorites were "Will Mary Richards Go To Jail?," "A New Sue Ann," "Not a Christmas Story" (probably my top fave from S5), "A Son for Murray," "A Girl Like Mary" (Sue Ann's audition is just too funny!!), "The System," "Marriage: Minneapolis Style," "You Try to be a Nice Guy" (Ted's reaction to Mary in the dress is priceless), and "Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcaster's School." I remembered some of the episodes from watching them before, but not all of them. Bring on Season 6!! :)

1) The System (Ted finding out how much he bet; Ted on the balcony covered in snow; Mary closing the curtains)
2) Ted Baxter’s Famous Broadcasters School (Ted Xeroxing school fight song; Ted turning to an entirely empty section of chairs to continue his speech; Mary Richards, Dean of Women)
3) Not A Christmas Story (Sue Ann getting them to wear the funny hats; Georgette singing)
4) A Girl Like Mary (Sue Ann’s audition; Lou trying to bring Mary down gently)
5) You Try To Be A Nice Guy (Mary in the green dress; Ted’s Get Me a Glass of Water! reaction)
Honorable mention:
Will Mary Richards Go to Jail?
You Sometimes Hurt the One You Hate
Phyllis Whips Inflation (or any of the Phyllis-centric episodes)

In no particular order:

Ted Baxter’s Famous Broadcasters School
Will Mary Richards Go to Jail?
A New Sue Ann (guest starring Linda Kelsey, who would become a regular on the spinoff Lou Grant.)
Not a Christmas Story
An Affair to Forget
Phyllis Whips Inflation (w/ the only and only Doris Roberts!)
Lou and That Woman (w/Sheree North, the future Babs Kramer on Seinfeld!)
I Love a Piano (w/Barbara Barrie, the future Mrs. Barney Miller!)

I want to also say I love how Mary has grown a backbone and is no longer such a doormat. MTM herself really seems to relish this, too!!
