In the first season episode "Hi!", which aired on February 6, 1971, Mary Richards was dressed in a pink-coloured (with some orange, yellow, and purple areas) babydoll nightie. It was clearly seen in the hospital scenes where she is depicted with Loretta Kuhne. When I fist saw the episode in its original airing, I was stunned by Mary in that sexy nightgown. I could think that the style of the nightie is very '60s.
"Hi!" is the episode where Mary Richards is admitted to the hospital to have her tonsils removed and she is met with a grouchy roommate who refuses to get along with anyone.

I really like that episode we've all been in situations with grumpy people, who refuse to be civil, lol
Pat Carroll is great in this.

"Stunning" is the right word for that babydoll nightie, which I believe she wore in one or two other episodes. My jaw still drops every time I see it.

Which other episodes did Mary wear that nightgown?

Give me a few days, and I'll see what I can find.
Any excuse to do some research on THAT topic!

Jim, and any of the other guys on the board who are interested, I came up with two other episodes that had Mary's amazing technicolor babydoll nightie besides "Hi" in Season 1, although there could be more.
The funny thing was that I remembered her in a short nightgown in each of these eps, but I thought they had to be different ones...but each time it was that incredible pink/orange/yellow/purple number!
The second one was "A Girl's Best Mother Is Not Her Friend", Season 2, Episode 29, when Rhoda's mother visits and she and Rhoda have a spat so Ida comes down to Mary's apartment and rings the bell just before Mary is going to sleep. She's not in the nightie too long, as she quickly puts a thin pink coat over it, but the scene is worth checking out...oh those famous legs!
The third one might possibly be the most memorable to me. It's in the seventh season, the fourth-from-the-last episode, "Mary's Three Husbands", when Murray, Ted, and Lou all fantasize about what it would be like to be married to Mary. In Ted's fantasy, he's in a hotel room, and Mary comes out in that same nightie. Of course she doesn't let him get anywhere, in what is a hilarious scene.
Mary had to be over 40 when she filmed that scene in 1977, but she was still as smokin' as the first time she wore it in 1971! And I gotta tell ya, when I saw her in person in April, I think she could STILL wear the thing! Maybe it's her genes, her years of dancing, or some kind of celebrity workouts, but what a great bod!
Actually, I have always loved the Mary Tyler Moore Show first for the humor, and second for the camaraderie, at home and at WJM. But a very close third is just being able to watch the gorgeous Mary. And that babydoll nightie deserves to go in the Smithsonian, as far as I'm concerned! If anyone knows how to do a framegrab! ...

^^What do you mean the Smithsonian? I do not think a rare object that only appear in only one or a very few episodes of a TV series should be in the Smithsonian. And another thing, we don't have any framegrabs of that nightgown.
