View Full Version : Did you see the Decker "Rain Man" SCAM on UM??
Big3sCompanyFan 10-25-2009, 08:40 PM I'm sorry but UM really sunk to the depths of malarkey on this case. I saw the UM on Spike this morning at 8 and I forget if his name is Drecker or Decker but this guy had this preposterous claim that whereever he sat it rained.
He said his grandpa molested him and then after his funeral it started raining around him at his house and then it rained around him at a restaurant and then later they brought in a priest to do an excorcism!!?!?? Are you kidding me??
This has to be the only time when UM actully got taken by a SCAM because ask any legit scientist and he'll tell you excorcisms are FRAUDS and are simply staged events by people who believe in that particular religion.
Have you ever noticed that if you don't believe in Christianity those excorcims never work and they don't even apply?
I know there were some PA police officers who claim they saw this rain but even officers can be mentally imbalanced or stage pranks too. Remember the Bigfoot Georgia prank? An officer was involved in that too.
And this Drecker guy now says it doesn't rain around him anymore and he doesn't know why it stoppped! LOL! So conveniently it stops before anyone credible, like a doctor, can examine him!
SCAM ALERT!!
justins5256 10-26-2009, 10:40 AM Yeah, that's an old story from season 5, iirc. It might be on the DVD sets, not sure though. The kid's name was Don Decker. I read on here that everyone who was involved in that story (including Decker) is now deceased. I would be curious to know if that is true.
youngUMfan 10-26-2009, 10:47 AM And if you search the board there is a book some wrote about the Rainboy (if you're interested).... In my opinion this episode was all fake too.
TheEZ 10-26-2009, 11:04 AM That was definitely one of the worst stories the show ever featured. It would be even if it had been true. He used to be able to make it rain and now he can't. So who cares anymore? I can't believe they included it in the new version, especially if everyone involved really has died. That's valuable space being taken away from a real story that still needs to be resolved. What a shame that that time is being wasted on such an obvious scam.
egswanso 10-26-2009, 11:17 AM It's no better or worse then all the other stories on the paranormal, "psychics," and the like. All of these stories are idiotic and the people claiming these so-called powers are either delusional, at best, or con men.

I'm glad all you guys agree with me that is was scam because I thought I may get some pushback on it although I coulnd't IMAGINE how a supporter of his could possibly stick up for him!
He's dead already?? Season 5 was only about the early 90s right? That's only about 17 years ago and that Decker guy didn't look nearly that old! Even the police officers didn't look that old and they're dead too??
Whenever they mention exorcisms you know it's a SCAM ALERT since those stage shows only work on people who believe in that religion and then just act it out!
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 10-27-2009, 03:18 AM So eleven people including police officers and a priest lied, why? To do a cheesy TV reenactment? It also boggles the mind that all involved could be dead so soon afterwards.
Evidently some were still living as recently as two years ago: http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070915/NEWS/709150324/-1/rss01

Yep. People being scum and making up some lie to get their 15 minutes sounds a lot more possible than someone being able to make it rain inside. Especially when we consider how often we hear about the former vs. how often we hear about the latter.
shanejm 10-27-2009, 01:56 PM As of last year Mr. Decker was very much alive. Just search for his information or the word Rainboy and you'll get info on him. I do think it is one of the worst cases on UM but I also believe that 11 people wouldn't lie about it. But that is just my opinion.
egswanso 10-27-2009, 02:03 PM When dealing with paranormal phenononom, it's not always as clear as lie vs. tell the truth. truth, in many cases, can be subjective. Those suseptical to magical thinking, especially, may perceive a normal event as an abnormal one, especially as time passes and the memory is clouded by others.

It could've been a rare occurence of very heavy condensation along with some mist/fog that appeared in the house due to a problem with the furnace/ventilation along with a possible leak somewhere in the house.
They never called in a legitimate plumber or insepctor to check the house out which makes you wonder too.
But it's fantasy to say it was some supernatural event especially when it suddenly stopped and they have ZERO evidence it ever happened.

Why do you consider this case any more bizarre than any of the other alien, psychic or ghost stories that UM has done? All of them can be considered hoax-worthy? Why single out this particular case? I'm not saying this is a hoax, but consider these points:
1. Indoor rain has been known to occur. Scientifically it can be made to rain indoors.
2. The phenomenon detailed in this episode is not unique. There have been other incidents like this on documented as far back as the middle ages.
3. What possible benefit could this incident have to police officers? if anything they stand to lose more in terms of credibility and promotions.
4. This incident has more witnesses than most phenomenon. I think it has more witnesses than most of the UFO sightings UM has covered. I can't imagine you can coerce that many witnesses to say the same thing, just for publicity.
5. Usually when you have a hoax, there is follow up book, movie rights, the works. There has really been none of that in this case. The only real publicity has been this segment. I don't think Don Decker even has a wikipedia page on him?

But then why add all the Christianity crap with exorcisms and the such which are nothing but a PROVEN scam! Those so called "possessed" people are just putting on an act since they buy into the scam of a religion.
You notice when you try it on anyone who doesn't fall for that faith it never works?
Plus they never mentioned in the segment about the scientific plausibility about raining indoors and the only scenario where I've heard of that is when you have so many people crammed indoors that the resulting humidity can cause it to rain and that didn't apply here.

Then your problem isn't with the Rainboy segment but with religion in general. This isn't the forum for religious argument. Religion or lack of religious beliefs like any philosphy is one that needs to be put into practical use. You can say that your the biggest atheist or christian on the plannet, the words mean nothing until your beliefs are placed in a practical manner.
For example, are you going to be that big a christian or atheist, when your on your suffering from a terminal illness that science says is incurable? Are you going to be that big a chritsian or atheist when a criminal when a mass murderer goes free and kills more people?
Life is like criminal investigation, is a practical science, not a theoretical science. All your beliefs before the investigation mean nothing till your actually at the crime scene.
Plus they never mentioned in the segment about the scientific plausibility about raining indoors and the only scenario where I've heard of that is when you have so many people crammed indoors that the resulting humidity can cause it to rain and that didn't apply here
Actually I was hoping they would go into other "raining" incidents. I also thought they would investigate shamanism and "rain dancing".
Mastermind 10-31-2009, 09:41 PM In regards to exorcisms, The topic of exorcism is actually a very complex topic that is not as cut and dry as some people think.
1. It is interesting to note that several religions have some form of exorcism in their faith. Exorcism also may have a lot of traces to some older religions, even African religions. The concept of ritual required to remove evil is a very widespread idea.
2. So much of the psychological or neurological concept of evil is unknown. There have been several studies to find out if evil is a physical manifestion of some sort in the brain.
3. There is evidence there may be a placebo effect that exorcism has.
That alone may make exorcisms worthwhile.
Whats' more frightening or less plausible, some evil force enters a human being or that some normal person like Brad Bishop murdered his family for no reason?
Whose to say some evil force didn't enter Brad's body and led to those murders? If an exorcism could have prevented those murders. I'm all for the practice!!! I'm for anything that prevents murder.

No, the problem with your post is your trying to give the Rainboy segment some credibility while providing ZERO corroboration in addition to the fact the UM segment had no corroboration either.
I just mentioned religion because religious aspects were brought up in the Rainboy segment which automatically kills credibility since there are hundreds of gods/supernatural experiences that are claimed by mankind yet no corroboration exists for any of them so when you talk of religion you are talking about the mythical realm which doesn't belong on UM since UM is supposed to deal with FACTS.

What made you think that I believe that the incident is real?

UM is an entertainment showAgain, your argument is about religion. You need to find a different forum for that. This discussion is closed.
UM is supposed to deal with FACTS
I think you need to watch another show, if you believe that.
I agree with Master Mind and I think your problem does have more to do with religion than with Rain Boy and his scams. Why just talk about "Rain Man" as a scam? There have been other segments on here that have to do with religion and exorcisms. You didn't notice those before? Also, you keep mentioning religion and "Christianity crap" and the like. If you're one of those atheists who can't get over the fact that people believe in "other things", and has a stick up their rear end about it then fine. But remember this is a public forum. Live and let live. Leave your need to bash religion out of this and stick to the facts (or lack there of) about the stupid "Rain Man" case.
And UM isn't going to be always about facts. You should know this by now. You've been watching the show how long? The show deals not only with factual missing persons, and wanted cases, but also unexplained deaths (in which all facts are not present, and some aspects of these cases are known, therefore they cannot be proven facts just yet), and other unexplained phenomenon.
Got it?
I wouldn't go so far as to say this segment was the product of a scam. Scamming usually involves someone getting ripped off. But I will agree that it was not one of UM's greatest moments.
Big3sCompanyFan 11-04-2009, 02:51 AM Yeah and the UM segments that deal with exorcisms and/or spiritual/religious entities have no basis in fact whatsoever.
This has nothing to do with Atheism but the TRUTH. If anyone wants to assert there is any truth to any of these supernatural entities then why not invite objective researchers to view it? If they do then nothing happens or they refuse since they know they're just hoaxers.
Try and get a legit scientific journal to publish a peer reviewed paper on exorcisms and other such nonsense and see what happens.

There are scientific journals proving Loch Ness Monster, ESP, Noah's Ark and Atlantis. Why would one on exorcism be treated any worse?
There was an article in a well known scientific journal that stated that parasites caused cancer. In fact a noble prize was one based on it. It was widely praised when it came out.

Don't LIE dude.
NO ONE has proven the Loch Ness monster. In fact the most famous picture ever of the "Loch Ness Monster" was admitted to be a hoax by the very man who took it.
You have a body or any tissue samples? I didn't think so.
You are really naive if you believe stuff like Noah's Ark. You obviously don't know science and why it's IMPOSSIBLE for it to have acutally happened.
The entire Bible is mythology and NOT ONE document or eyewitness exists corroborating any of the ridiculous claims the Bible makes. You probably don't know gods like Mithras, Osiris, Dionysus, etc. that came BEFORE Jesus were also born of virgin birth, had blood sacrifice, were resurrected, etc.
Jesus is simply a myth that was copied from earlier gods and any educated person knows that. This is why Christianity is collapsing in America and 80% of chruches are shrinking and it's dying all over the western world. It's also why Jesus never "comes back" despite Christians claiming for thousands of years that he will.
Get educated and read why Noah's ark is a total myth:

I was right. Typical atheist with a stick up your butt about Christianity. You've gotten off topic now. And you'll continue to stay off topic because you're that dense. You need to like, go troll somewhere else. And get a life.
Why didn't you pick on Atlantis? Oh that's right, Atlantis isn't Christianity.
shallow!

LOL! YOU are the troll who is naive enough to think Palestine, less than 1% of the population on earth, speaks for the ENTIRE world!
I'll go with Einstein, Thomas Edison, Stephen Hawking, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjaman Franklin who all knew Christianity is/was a MYTH but you are too naive to know the truth.
And there is no solid proof Atlantis is real and definitely not ESP so keep dreaming.
crystaldawn 11-04-2009, 08:50 PM This is a board about UM. The religious arguing needs to stop and we need to get back on topic which is specifically the Rain Boy segment on UM.

Hm.... maybe more like thick instead of shallow.
You still don't seem to see how you've gotten off topic and are now bashing a whole other subject than Don Decker indoor rain, and UM. And I think you do this because you know you'll get under peoples skin. Who's the troll there? Certainly not I.
And now it's clear to everyone but yourself that your problem is with religion/Christianity than this indoor rain story.
But I should expect responses like this from you. After all, you're the only one on here who thinks Oba Chandlers victims were responsible for their own deaths.
And your ridiculous statements and inflammatory remarks just reflect on your character, and lack of respect for others in general.
But I'll tell you this, you don't get under my skin. For the simple FACT that I already mentioned. What you say reflects on you. Not me. But that's probably something too difficult for you to understand.
