so, i haven't seen family ties in years but i always loved the show.

a question about alex and lauren...

so, they broke up when alex started to date marty. but, later on, lauren comes back for the last episode. so, are we to assume that they broke up but continued to be friends? any idea why they decided to have them break up in the first place? i mean, i know why they had alex and ellen break up. tracy wanted to move back to new york and not do the show. but i was unsure why lauren and alex broke up.

I assume that Alex and Lauren stayed friends because she showed up in the last episode. I don't know why the writers chose to break Alex and Lauren up. It seems a little odd considering the show was coming to an end soon when the break up episode aired.
