I've always wondered why the sports media, for the most part, refers to the organization of Major League Baseball as simply "baseball", like in, "Baseball has suspended so-and-so for this, that, and the other thing". I know it has been a two-league system since the last turn of the century, but how often do you hear, or see, the NFL, NBA, NHL, or other leagues referred to as their respective sports? I, for one, prefer to use MLB rather than "baseball".

I think it's just so people know what sport is being talked about.
MLB is a position on a football team as Middle Line Backer...
And plus, MLB is a bit more popular than college baseball.
