About five or six years ago, I suggested that my brother enter a poetry contest on poetry.com. He was hesitant about it, and said if you want to enter it, go ahead. The poem was written about his ex who moved to Stockton California. Funny, because the one I'm in love with also lives in Cali. Anyway, there were thousands of entry's in the contest, and my brother came in fourth place. He was also invited to the shrine auditorium in California to read his poem in front of celebrities, and famous poets. He also got his poem put in a book called "Letters From The Soul" If any of you have poems you've written, poems that friends or family have written, or just your favorite poems, I'd love to hear them. By the way, I'm really relating to this poem alot these days. :(
The Brook
Most of my life I was a stream, flowing seperately,
until I met up with this Brook, which grabbed a hold of me,
and as I gaze into this brook, I see your life with mine,
through thin and thick, calm and rough, always flowing in line,
as many rocks and sticks and things, attempt to block the way,
while you and I flow as one, past these everyday,
nothing can impede our path, breaking who we are,
I am yours now and forever together we'll go far,
with every bend and every bank, bringing something new,
no such thing will prove to rough, so long as I have you,
many friends we may meet, such as animals near the stream,
but be aware of those whose key intent, is that to break our team,
in these times I ask of you, please hang on tight to me,
then with my strength, backed by yours, we'll flow eternally,
never stopping, maybe slowing, but picking up again,
as life pollutes us and it harms us, together we will win,
never a split, will be found, as our brook flows on it's way,
because in heart, we shall not part, together everyday,
so in the end when finally, we reach the open sea,
I will hold you by the hand, and you will flow with me.
