This is one of my favorite eps that I've seen so far of TDRS. I grew up watching Shelley Fabares on Coach, so it's been a kick watching her play such a sweet teenage girl on the cusp of womanhood. I especially liked this episode where she has a crush on a young doctor. She dreams about him, culminating in a fantasy where her "husband" the doctor is decorated in his old age. He is awarded with the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, Medal of Valor, and to cap it off, an Emmy!! I laughed aloud at that scene. Great show!!

P.S. Shelley would be nominated for an Emmy herself many years later (twice) for her role as Christine Armstrong on Coach.

I agree. That is a very good episode. I always thought that Shelley was an excellent young actress. She played the role of teenage Mary perfectly: whiny, self-absorbed, boy-crazy and annoyed with her younger brother, yet she was kind, studious and loyal. She was beautiful but didn't seem conceited.

Also, sending Jeff off for a scouting weekend in this episode allowed Shelley to show her talent without the usual theme of conflict with her little brother.

Excellent points, Stacy. It is so interesting to watch Shelley in both The Donna Reed Show and Coach. Her real life aunt Nanette Fabray played Christine's mother on Coach, and her real life hubby Mike Farrell played Christine's ex on another episode.

I enjoyed this, but I don't think it is a fave of mine. I think "Sleep No More, My Lady" is a contender  I'm currently going to watch "Pickles for Charity"--sounds delish ;)

I love when Shelley has her hair down in that flip style.......that ponytail was just so juvenile (maybe that was the point--how old was Shelley when started Donna Reed?)

Shelley was 14 when the show debuted. Since her birthday is in January she turned 15 halfway through the first season.

ok......I think the producers must have noticed that she looked "older" with her hair down, so they kept her in that ponytail.....can't wait til she finally sheds that look

I think an endorsment from Shelley Fabares would be a help as well.

And at least another cast member is on there too...can't recall the name right off hand.

yes it would be nice if Shelly Fabares and Patty Petersen got on board. There is only so much that I, just a fan, can do.
