View Full Version : Cheryl Ladd felt shunned

When Farrah passed away, there was an article about the reaction of the other angels, and Cheryl was reported as saying she felt hurt when Farrah, Kate and Jaclyn reunited at the tribute to Aaron Spelling. She said Kate planned it that way and that was that. She wasn't very close to Farrah, as they only appeared together for 6 episodes, and she and Jaclyn are fast friends. I saw she was at Farrah's funeral, though, as well as Kate and Jaclyn.

When they showed people that were there on one of the entertainment shows, they showed her. Also Lee Majors. And of course Jaclyn, Kate.

That was nice of Lee to come - knowing that they didn't exactly part on the best of terms.

I'm sure he loved her and was hurt when he heard about her death. I don't know the details of their parting. I just remember seeing them together. I was kind of shocked when I heard that they had broken up after having been together for so long!

Yes, they were together for several years before marrying in 1973. Then in 1979, Farrah left Lee for his best friend - Ryan O'Neal!

It's ego talking. Cheryl was a replacement for Farrah -- and they weren't close personally and had only worked together on a few shows -- so I think it made sense to just have the originals reunite.

Get over yourself, Cheryl!

I get your point, but on the other hand Cheryl Ladd was an angel for FOUR years, second only to Jaclyn's five, and longer than both Kate (3) and Farrah (1).

No offense, bliss, but I think reunions are best left undone.

I agree with the late Bea Arthur: I'd rather remember them when they were young and in their prime.

I think it was Susan Olsen who once said that reunion shows are like train wrecks - you can't NOT watch. Retrospectives/clip shows are fine and good, but actual scripted reunions are hit or miss - mostly miss.

^True, but yet there's something about seeing a new reunion story with the characters older and looking different, and also seeing how the sets have changed. You want to see what's changed since "the last time".

Cheryl should get over it already. How old is she? It's time to grow up. The original Charlie's angels fans remember the story from the beginning. She's lucky to have been a part of this phenomenom.

That's exactly why Elizabeth Montgomery never wanted to do a Bewitched reunion - she said they'd never be able to top the original (besides, without Agnes Moorehead, it wouldn't have been a REAL reunion!). That's also why she thought her ex-husband Bill Asher was nuts for directing reunion shows for I Dream of Jeannie and Green Acres!!

Wasn't there an I Dream Of Jeannie reunion movie where Wayne Rogers played Tony Nelson instead of Larry Hagman. I don't know why Larry refused -- unless his contractual obligations to Dallas kept him from doing it. But how can you call that a "reunion?"

It didn't. At that time Larry was distancing himself from his Jeannie years and didn't want to do it. Ken Kerchaval actually was in the second reunion movie. I have never watched the reunion movies because without Larry, it wouldn't be the same.

I also heard somewhere that Larry's salary demands were much higher than what the IDOJ reunion people were willing to dish out. If that's true, it doesn't surprise me a bit.

Actually, I know many people who remember Cheryl Ladd the most. Cheryl did four years of the show. Farrah only did one year.

The first lineup I was introduced to was Cheryl Ladd, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson. It's not fair to leave her out, as she was on the show the most, and is beloved and has a huge fanbase. I would feel slighted as well.

I was a big fan of Cheryl's when she came on the series. It was an exciting time to be a pre-teen/teenager and be able to see Cheryl and Jaclyn in particular; I came around to appreciating Kate, Farrah, and Shelley Hack a little later.

If anyone should feel shunned it's David Doyle! Everyone loves to talk about the Angels, debate about the Angels, compare the Angels but no one ever seems to talk about Bosley. Poor David!

I LOVED David/Bos!! He rocked. Supposedly, the character was named Bosley because people kept confusing David with Tom Bosley (Happy Days). He also was hilarious in the S2 Barney Miller epsiode "Ambush".

As I recall, the Charlie's Angels producers wanted Tom Bosley for the role, but of course, he was on Happy Days and unavailable, so they named the character "Bosley" as a tongue-in-cheek joke.

They must be going by the popular angels, when the show was still popular. I don't think most people think of Shelly and Tanya as Angels.

Cheryl Ladd was so perfect in replacing Farrah Fawcett, that I truly think of her as an original Angel.

And they also remember the seasons after the first season. Many of us didn't stop watching the show after Farrah left. Many of us kept watching and many of us watched the show when Cheryl came to the show, and associate Cheryl with the show a lot more than Farrah. Cheryl was on the show for years, while Farrah was only for 20 episodes.

We feel closer to kris, Kelly, and Sabrina. The longest running Angels and Angel team.

Exactly. Cheryl was part of the phenomenom, just like Farrah was, and like Farrah, Cheryl deserves to be part of anything Angel related. Farrah dumped the show. Cheryl was committed to the show and stuck with it.

It doesn't matter how old Cheryl is. That has nothing to do with it. You can feel shunned at any age. The interviewer asked her and she answered.

Besides, I already know that Cheryl would feel shunned. She put in 4 years, and is totally ignored and given little to no credit.

Anyone would feel that way if they were shunned, no matter the age. It's being human.

Fallon, did you ever see Cheryl Ladd's TV movie "Though None Go With Me"? She plays a feisty grandmother who raised a rebellious granddaughter and her story is told in flashback. It's a very sweet movie well worth watching, and is on DVD. Here's a picture of Cheryl going through her character's aging process, and of the DVD cover itself.

The late Bea Arthur said the same thing about a Golden Girls reunion. She felt that a reunion would just show them older and that it would be depressing.

I liked Bea -- she spoke her mind and was blunt. A refreshing rarity in show business.

Tony Randall and Jack Klugman did an Odd Couple reunion movie in the early nineties and it was depressing.

They incorporated Jack Klugman's throat cancer into the storyline and if that wasn't depressing enough, they had another actor playing Murray the cop.

There is only one Murray Greshler:

Melissa Joan Hart is always asked about a "Clarissa Explains It All" reunion and she always says she doesn't like the idea.

Here's what she said from a 2009 interview:

Will there ever be a "Clarissa Explains It All" reunion?

I don't think a reunion is a good idea in a lot of cases. I think it's too sad.

You know, that time is gone. We said goodbye when we said goodbye and I think it's better to live on as it is.

It's kind of weird. I don't necessarily like watching "The Brady Brunch" grow up

Yes, but Return To The Batcave didn't have Adam and Burt (or is it Burt and Ward?) playing Batman and Robin again. It was set in the present day with the actors playing themselves.

And seriously, would you really want to see Burt Ward try to squeeze into his tights the way he looks now?

If I were Cheryl, I would feel shunned too. I know some say she needs to get over it but if that it how she felt, then she was being honest. If I contributed four years on a show and stayed with it til the end, then I would have an issue with that no doubt. She spent four out of five years on that series. Shelly and Tanya I can understand not being there (though it would have been nice) due to them coming later in the run of the and lasting one year.

Well said, Thomas. I agree. I'm sure if others were in Cheryl's shoes, they would feel the same way as well. Cheryl was definitley shunned, and it was very unfair, rude, and mean. She committed to the show, never left, and put in more years than Kate or Farrah. She should have been included.

Cheryl was definitely shunned by Kate, but she did become good friends with Jaclyn eventually (and they are still good friends today, from what I hear). Cheryl also became very close to David Doyle - and I think their bond shows up on screen. With no offense to the late Farrah - the 1st season was probably my least favorite. I know, they were still going through transition and went through 3 or 4 producers that year before they found a formula that worked. Still, I found Cheryl/Kris a lot more fun and relatable than Farrah's character, Jill. Then again, that's just my opinion.

Very true. I saw Cheryl and Jaclyn on a morning show (Good Morning America, I think), and they were talking about how close they are and how much they love each other. I thought it was very sweet, and they are absolutely adorable as friends, just like Kris and Kelly. Also, it was really sweet how they were holding hands at the TVLand Awards, as well as on the red carpet. I get the sense that they are great friends.

I agree catlover. I love Kris and Bosley’s sweet bond. For some reason, I always felt that Kris was the Angel whom Bosley was the closest to. I guess Cheryl and David’s close bond offscreen explains why I have always felt that way.

Still, I found Cheryl/Kris a lot more fun and relatable than Farrah's character, Jill. Then again, that's just my opinion.

Does anybody else believe that Kate Jackson resented Cheryl Ladd's blatant self promotion, hence her record album and TV specials? Plus, Cheryl with all due respect, would be immediately looked at as being all boobs and teeth. That was the opposite of Kate Jackson, who didn't want the show to be about the bathing suits.
