"We had a great weekend and it feels good to be the number one movie in America," said Zombieland co-writer Paul Wernick when ShockTillYouDrop.com talked with him and his writing partner Rhett Reese yesterday.
The pair is, in their words, giddy at the zom-com's weekend success which has paved the way for a lucrative week as well. Reese told us, "The movie did 2.1 million on Monday and 2.2 million on Tuesday which is really tremendous and rare for a movie to go up from a Monday to a Tuesday. We're hoping that implies word of mouth, that's a good sign."
"The push for the sequel," Wernick continues, "well, the studio just has to get into it with everyone about budgets and next steps. It all depends on box office. We'll be watching it closely this weekend to see how it progresses."
Zombieland opened in the United Kingdom and Russia yesterday. How the film does there is another determining factors as to whether we'll see the further adventures of Tallahassee and Columbus.
"Traditionally, those are markets that mirror the U.S. market pretty well," said Reese.
"Both of those markets have a lot of love for zombies. These are the things that are being looked at to see if a sequel makes sense. Foreign box office and continuing domestic box office. We'll get closer to a decision as these things are looked at."

browneyes106 10-08-2009, 11:11 PM I read some other articles about possible sequels. The writers originally wrote it as a tv series pilot and it was sold to CBS but nothing was developed by the network but they wrote several episodes. I think a sequel could work well for a movie like Zombieland. I do hope if sequel is made it's done well.
The movie seems to be doing pretty well especially on it's grosses for Monday and Tuesday. I will definitely be checking box office numbers this weekend to see how it does.
comedyfreak 10-09-2009, 09:47 AM I'd like to see this movie.

I loved it. It truly is good.

Disheartening news for those expecting to see a sequel for Zombieland. Co-writer Rhett Reese posted the following message on his Twitter account this afternoon.
""Zombieland" currently the most pirated movie on bit torrent. Over one million downloads and counting," he then adds, "Beyond depressing. This greatly affects the likelihood of a "Zombieland 2." "
In our exclusive interview with Reese and his writing partner Paul Wernick told me they've got plenty of ideas for a follow-up. But that was contingent on the film's box office success. Unfortunately, online piracy puts a dent in that success.
Roughly six weeks after its debut, Zombieland has grossed an estimated $83 million worldwide. It remains in the top 20 (it grossed $1.2 million over the weekend).
I'm not sure what marker Sony is trying to meet before they give the go ahead for a sequel, because it's made some good money, still, the piracy is a load of crap. And it'd be a shame if we missed out on sequel because of that.

JamesG 11-24-2009, 11:29 PM Fleischer Wants to Do Zombieland 2...in 3D!

November 24, 2009
In a recent chat with Moviehole, director Ruben Fleischer confirmed that Sony is indeed very interested in a sequel to Zombieland. The entire original cast consisting of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin are also ready and willing, but the question is when?
"Whenever we crack it", says Fleischer referring to the storyline for the next Zombieland outing, although Woody Harrelson has hinted he'd love either a Paris or Broadway backdrop.
Fleischer also reveals that he'd like it to be in 3D because "the genre really lends itself to [3-D]", especially with the advances in the technology over the course of the last few years."
Meanwhile, Zombieland will hit DVD shelves on February 2nd.

JamesG 12-02-2009, 01:48 AM Director Deal Sealed for Zombieland 2 3D

December 1, 2009
The Hollywoood trades continue to follow the leads of various sites like this one and our buddies at Moviehole.
Tonight, Variety has confirmed that director Reuben Fleischer is returning for Zombieland 2.
Sony is reportedly finalizing deals to "bring the gang back" for another entry and it will, indeed, be in 3D.
"Everyone had fun watching (the first) "Zombieland"; making it a more visceral experience can only make it better," producer Gavin Polone tells the site.
"I don't think you want to see "Ordinary People" in 3-D. But "Zombieland" is clearly one movie that will benefit from (the technique)."
Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg are in talks to reprise their roles.

Yeah I hope it's going to be good too. I was very impressed with Zombieland so the sequel can be just as good or not as good.
Hopefully the key cast will come back. I look forward to it.
JamesG 02-09-2010, 10:01 PM Zombieland 2 Promises to Have Blood Flying in Your Face

By: MrDisgusting
It has already been revealed that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are hard at working penning a sequel to their smash hit zombedy Zombieland that will bring Ruben Fleischer back to the director's chair for zombies in 3-D.
A new video interview with the writing duo was posted online today where they reveal some big plans for the 3-D elements in Zombieland 2. Read on for the skinny.
With Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg confirmed to be returning, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick explain that they want to create a larger family.
“We want to stick with our dysfunctional family,” Wernick told MTV in the below interview. “But also introduce new characters.”
“We entirely want to write with 3-D in mind,” Wernick added. “We have the vision, and want to have fun with the technology..."
"We want you to be looking down at your popcorn to make sure there isn’t blood on it,” Reese said laughingly. “There will be a lot of fluids flying!”

March 5, 2010
Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer spoke to Icon Vision about his career and the status of a sequel to his undead romp with Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg:
"We have been talking to the studio and we pitched them some ideas that they seemed to really like. We are definitely doing the film in 3D. Sony has their own 3D division now and we are going to go get a little tour of that on Tuesday (3/2/2010), of the 3D department.
I know that the cast are all excited to be a part of the sequel, so it should be a great, fun movie to make! The script is about to be written and hopefully we will shoot it sometime towards the end of the year or early next year."

While in Grand Rapids, Michigan on the set of Ruben Fleischer's new comedy 30 Minutes of Less, ShockTillYouDrop.com learned from actor Jesse Eisenberg that a first draft of the script for the sequel Zombieland 2 has been completed by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and turned into Sony although he hasn't read it yet.
Fleischer himself confirmed to us that he has read the script as well.
"Yeah, I read it," he told a group of journalists on set. "I mean, it's an early draft and we have plenty more to do to work on it, but I think it's going to be amazing, I'm really excited about it."
Even if they get the script finished, Fleischer isn't sure if it will be his next project after 30 Minutes of Less as his name has been attached to a couple other previously-announced projects:
"I got a couple irons in the fire, so we'll see, but I'd be psyched to do it. I have this buddy cop movie that I sold to DreamWorks that's pretty cool that these guys Arnold and Poole are writing.
There's a movie that Mike White wrote called 'Babe in the Woods,' that's a really cool script, so those kind of exist and I guess we'll see what happens."
Back in March, the director told the press that he was talking to Sony about shooting the film in 3D. The first film's original cast members are expected to return.
Reese and Wernick--who have also scripted G.I. Joe 2 since the release of Zombieland last year--have expressed to us in the past that they've had plenty of ideas for a follow-up, so clearly penning the script was a breeze.
30 Minutes of Less doesn't open until August 2011.
