A 10-year-old British girl has been barred from trying to sell her granny on eBay, who she complained was "cuddly" but "annoying," the auction website said Wednesday.
Zoe Pemberton wrote a light-hearted listing to sell her 61-year-old grandmother Marion Goodall, of Clacton, southeastern England, but eBay said the advert breached human trafficking regulations.
"Obviously we have rules about the selling of people," said an eBay spokeswoman. "We had to take it down but it was quite amusing.
"The little girl had described her grandmother as 'annoying' but had gone on to say she liked crosswords and was 'cuddly' and there were quite a few offers."
The spokeswoman added: "The advert was obviously light-hearted and had been done with the full knowledge of grandma -- we do get these kind of things from time to time."

catlover79 10-05-2009, 08:28 PM WHAT???? That girl should consider herself blessed - both my grandmothers are gone now. I was especially close to my mom's mom - she passed on in 1995 and I still miss her every day. :(

i agree, she should consider herself lucky and thankful to have a mother that she has. what she did might seem to be a joke to others, but to some of us, that is just not on at all.

Exactly. I can't tell you how much I miss mine - I'd pay eBay to get her back!!

According to the article the grandmother agreed to this so she found this to be funny as well.

Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Just because something is funny doesn't make it right. My Grandma's have both passed away and I miss them. Forgive me if I don't find a lot of humor in this story. It reminds me too much of what I've lost.

Same here - I'd so love to have my grandmas (AND grandpas) back. Grandparents ROCK!!

Amen! Grandparents do indeed ROCK!! I find comfort in the fact that I have some very special memories of my Grandparents. Also I have a blanket that my Grandma (my Mom's Mom) hand made for me. She even embroidered my initials on it. It's probably my most precious possession.

I did not say it was right. I pointed out the fact that the grandmother agreed to this.
It would be different if this kid did it behind the back of the grandmother as a crude joke but in this incident the grandmother found it funny.
This is their way of playing around I guess so the girl here is now doing things with her grandmother for memories to come.
She'll have a "I remember when granny agreed to be sold on e-bay.." story.

I agree that people should try not to take their relatives for granted. However, from reading the article, I get the impression that this may have been intended as some sort of joke, by both the girl and the grandmother. I think JamesG is right when he said it was their way of playing around, so I don't think this incident is an indication that the little girl doesn't love her grandmother and isn't thankful that she has her.
Also, she is only 10 years old. She's a child, so she probably isn't very mature and probably doesn't understand that something like this could be frowned upon and seen as her being ungrateful.
