Well, I still don't know if I'll get the new CD, but I'm still planning on seeing them in concert on 10/21 in Tampa!:rock:

I'm disappointed they didn't bring back Ace and Peter (which would mean getting rid of Eric and Tommy like how they ditched Eric and Bruce for "Psycho Circus") but after a decade it's about time KISS brought out new material.

From what I have heard so far I like and plus it's coming with a booklet, a DVD and a live album so it looks well worth the package.

I havent bought a CD since KISS Psycho Circus 1998 so I am looking forward to this one. I did buy Ace Frehley Anomoly and thought it was great.

I'm peeved that they put Eric and Tommy in Peter and Ace's make-up and costumes.

Eric has wore Peter's "Catman" longer than Tommy has with Ace and it caused a stir back then when Peter was let go and Eric first started wearing it.

I do tend to think that at this stage in the game with KISS there would be no point to invent new characters like they did with Carr and Vincent, but I still find it insulting that they are there really to mimic Ace and Peter's likeness.

You look at Tommy without makeup and he looks a lot like Paul. It made me wonder whether Gene picked these guys because they were talented musicans or because they had the "look" more.

I had the chance to buy pre-sale tickets for their Oshawa concert, but money was short at the time so I had to pass. It should be a good show though.

Eric Singer joined KISS for the "Revenge" album during the non-make-up years and Tommy Thayer was with KISS behind the scenes since the 1980s.

Peter Criss officially left KISS in 1980.

He then came back in the band again in 1996 after appearing at the MTV Unplugged for the Alive/Worldwide Tour and Psycho Circus.

He lasted until 2001 and he was let go again due to a contract dispute and was replaced by Eric Singer; who then wore Peter's make-up.

Peter then came back from 2002-2004 and appeared on the ALIVE IV: KISS Symphony album during this time.

In 2004 they simply did not resign his contract and Singer was in the band since.

What KISS seems to downplay or not acknowledge anymore is that Tommy Thayer was in an actual KISS tribute band, Cold Gin, in the early nineties.

I remember seeing pictures of Paul and Gene with the Cold Gin guys when they went to see them at an L.A. club back in those days.

Gene also produced Tommy's pre-KISS band Black And Blue and Gene probably figured it wouldn't hurt to have a guitarist who was familiar with KISS when he hired him as his personal assistant back around 1993 or so.

I disagree with Tommy and Eric wearing Ace and Peter's makeup, but I just hope the new album's good. I have no intentions of going to see KISS live ever again. The "Farewell" tour was my goodbye to the live KISS.

I don't know, I have mixed feelings. I would like to see KISS in Seattle next month at the Key Arena, but with only two original members, it's just not the same. Ace Frehley was the ACE. I guess he and Peter didn't want to go along with the deal anymore and left again, but Ace said he just felt like a tool the second time around and decided not to be part of it. He's a great guitar player, and that's what people want to hear. He's always been a guitar inspiration of mine, and not just because he had smoking guitar pickups!! :rock: I haven't heard enough of Tommy Thayer yet, but Eric Singer is back in the band in Peter Criss' cat makeup. I don't know, KISS explained their reasons for giving their trademark design to non-original members of the group but it still seems weird. When they got Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr, they gave them new makeup designs and identities.

Thanks for the info. on Thayer. I didn't know the specifics but I was aware he was involved with KISS for a while now.

I knew that he had songwriting credits for 1989's "Hot in the Shade" as well as "Carnival of Souls" from the late 90s.

Yeah, Peter and Ace always had an off-and-on relationship with KISS. The 2002 Winter Olympics was Ace's final performance with KISS; he didn't come back for a second brief stint like Peter did.

I tend to think at this point KISS is not out to "re-invent" themselves by putting out new characters. They want to keep the four original trademark faces with the band.

What's even worse is that Thayer mimicks every aspect of Ace -- from his playing style down to his onstage movements. It's just a reminder that Ace is Ace and while Tommy's a good mimic, he aint "the space Ace." And never will be.

Eric Singer, on the other hand, plays in his own style. I don't think he's crazy about wearing Peter Criss's makeup -- he's kind of hinted at that in some interviews -- but they pay him good money. So good that he takes time off from his full-time gig with Alice Cooper, who graciously allows him to do so. Singer is probably the best drummer KISS has ever had in technical terms.
