View Full Version : Do you know anyone who....
Janice 10-02-2009, 10:07 PM ....anyone personally who has died in an accident? Morbid topic, I know, so please move on if it troubles you. My husband's father died in a car accident in 1996. It was very sad. My husband's sister's husband drowned. He was out with his friend on a small speedboat. His friend turned around, and he was gone, fallen overboard. They never found his body. This left Lou's sister a widow at 23 with a year-old son. Both of my sister's overdoses were accidental. In high school, I knew a girl who drowned. She was so popular and simply gorgeous. That's it for now. Yikes.
PZelda 10-02-2009, 10:24 PM A girl in my grade died in a car accident back in 2001. Totally unexpected, took everybody by surprise. She was just 16 then.
A few more people at my HS died in accidents too, but I knew that classmate the best out of all of them.
I do, however, know someone who was murdered. Even scarier, I saw her (a teacher at my alma mater) just 12 hours before she met her cruel fate. :( If it had not been for Dave Coulier canceling his show in my town, I never would have gone out of town, and would have never gotten to talk to her before she died. You may remember it - I posted about it here (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=220839) last year.
Chocoholic 10-02-2009, 10:27 PM My uncle committed suicide when I was 12. This kid I went to school with was murdered a few years ago, along with his younger brother. I've had a couple of kids I went to school with die in accidents, but no one close to me.
At the school I work at, there have been a couple of children over the years who died from various causes, including one who went to the school nurse complaining of a headache and wound up suffering from a fatal aneurysm. Thank God they were years ago before I started working there. I don't know how I would handle it if one of the kids died.
Although I never met him, my uncle (my mother's youngest brother) died in a motorcyle accident when he was only 21 years old. He swerved to avoid a truck, ran into a sign and was decapitated. It was only a few weeks before my parents wedding, where he was supposed to serve as a groomsman.
A girl I went to highschool with was killed, along with both of her parents on Easter Sunday in a car crash. She was fifteen. I miss her to this day.
Tweety 10-02-2009, 10:32 PM I haven't personally known too many people who died in accidents, considering how long I've been around. Other causes, sickness or disease, yeah, but accidents, not that many.
The first time a friend of mine was killed in an accident was back in 1988. I was working at a bank of about 120 employees... a girl (also a bank employee) was killed in an auto accident during a weekend, and the entire bank was in a state of shock...she was 20 years old, and a beauty.
When I was a kid, my sister (who's a year older than me) had a friend her age whose younger sister died when one of their parents accidentally backed the car over her in their driveway..they never knew she was back there. I didn't know the little sister, but that was a terrible and scary thing. I'm guessing I was maybe 8 or 9 at the time.
In my 4 years at high school, I know of one student from our school (although a different grade) who was killed in an accident. Also, I had a friend who attended another school... he and I played basketball against each other while in high school... anyway, he was driving his date and another couple to their school's prom and had an accident, killing his girlfriend. Major shock, needless to say.
Working in banking as long as I have (25 years), I've known a few (probably less than 5) people who were bank customers and were killed in accidents.
Family Ties Forever! 10-02-2009, 10:33 PM I'm sorry for your losses Janice.
I don't know if it would be considered an 'accident' or not, but a friend of mine died in November 1999 from a blood clot in her leg.
There was a girl in my dorm when I was in college who drowned. She was wheelchair bound. She somehow ended up in a water fountain pond. That's how she was found. It was unknown how she ended up in the pond. Some speculated it was suicide, but others doubted it. She had a 4.0 GPA. The dorm I was in you had to keep a certain GPA in order to stay in the dorm.
One of my dad's best friends died in a car accident. My dad's other best friend was killed by a mugger on his way home from work. The strange thing is, both of them died within a few days of my dad's death from a heart attack. It was a strange, spooky series of coincidences.
spunkygirl 10-02-2009, 10:59 PM My cousin who was 17 at the time, was killed in an automobile accident in 1996(one month after his father died from Cancer).
He's the only one who died, he was the driver and was traveling with his cousin and a friend. He got thrown from the vehicle and his head hit the pavement.
LuLu Rogers 10-02-2009, 11:00 PM When I was 7 years old a little boy in my 1st grade class drowned in the Tennessee River.
When I was about 2 years old, some close family friends lost their daughter in a car accident, she was 18.
I have a big family, but we're all very close. I had a great aunt who I loved dearly die in a horrible accident when I was 15. She was mowing the lawn on a riding lawnmower and it got stuck on top of a hill. She turned the blades off and got in front of it and started pulling. It came down the hill on top of her and pinned her down where she couldn't breathe. She suffocated.
Both of my grandfather's brothers(I never met them) died in accidents. His older brother was asleep on the couch when his wife shot him in the back of the head. Needless to say, she got shipped off to an asylum. His younger brother was in a bad car accident and could no longer work, which made him feel useless, so he went out into the garage one night and shot himself.
And as you all know, my cousin Jamie was killed in Iraq at the age of 20.
Mr. Television 10-02-2009, 11:12 PM My 3rd grade teacher died in a car accident with her father a couple years after I was in her class. I was in 5th grade at the time and I remember the school closed down on the day of her funeral. She was one of my best teachers and she was very young. She was only in her 20's. I still think of her from time to time. She was only the second person I had ever known who had died...after my Grandfather.
browneyes106 10-02-2009, 11:28 PM One of my friend's sisters died in a car accident in 2001.
ZeldaGilroy 10-02-2009, 11:50 PM My sister Regina died in a motorcycle accident when she was 16. I was 5 at the time. She was coming home from a party with her boyfriend and he ran a stop sign and they were hit by a car.
My friend's grandfather was killed when he was driving across unmarked train tracks at night and hit by a train.
Darren J. 10-03-2009, 01:00 AM One of my dad's best friends committed suicide when he blew nearly his entire life savings on a botched investment.
Junior year of high school, a student shot himself with his father's shotgun. We don't believe it was a suicide. The father owned unique, one of a kind guns. We think the kid was playing with the gun and it accidently went off.
comedyfreak 10-03-2009, 09:51 AM My step-brother was killed in a car accident back in '68. A car hit he was driving was hit and he was thrown from the car and broke his neck killing him instantly. His girlfriend also died in the accident. It happened on a rainy November night.
A co-worker died suddenly after being admitted to the hospital for what he thought was severe authritise was actually a blood disease, he never came back. Everyone was shocked and deeply saddend by the event.
Sharop 10-03-2009, 03:27 PM Justin, a friend of mine from university, died in a car accident in April this year. He would have been 48 in June. He was a mature student and one of the first people I met when we both started our course in September 2006.
He was a great person and one of the most intelligent people I've ever known. I'm planning to go and see his grave soon and probably lay some flowers there.
Schmoopie 10-04-2009, 11:51 PM Wow, what a sad thread. Sadly I have known people who have died. Not all are really accidents, though. A girl in my high school died in 1983. She was coming home from the first football game and apparantly the guy was drunk and crashed into a light pole. She flew out of the car and the car crushed her. But that's just what I heard.
I used to work with this guy at a Blockbuster Video-VERY nice guy. I heard on TV that someone had broken into one of the stores and killed the manager who was working at the time. I was working at another job at the time and just happened to pick up the paper. Imagine my shock and horror at seeing the guy's picture on the front page and realizing that it was someone I knew.
I'm sorry to all of you on your losses.
Penny Lane 10-06-2009, 03:46 PM My cousin and a friend were killed in a train/car accident back in 1964. They were on their way back home after shopping for their prom dresses. They were 17 years old.
