View Full Version : do you use a flatbed scanner or one of those 4-in-1 models?

My flatbed scanner today DIED on me (it was just 3-4 years old) and I have to have a scanner for the things I do--old photos, documents, uploading receipts, etc. I was looking at some at Amazon and my goodness.....the prices are outrageous for some of these. I'm just looking for a basic plug-n-play like the Mustek I had, but Mustek has stopped making these apparently. Some used ones are on Amazon but I'm wary of buying a used product. I went to Walmart (the only choice in my town for anything dealing with computers--the Radio Shack we have is a joke)--no flatbeds at all. Just the 4-in-1's....ya know that print, scan, fax and copy.....well to buy would be duplicating what I already have--I have a perfectly good printer and just recently bought ink too. I'm just afraid that buying one of these will lead to too many complications trying to use it. I'm just nervous about making my next move?

Any advice?

My Dad has one of those 4 in 1 machines which I helped him purchase. I also installed it and set it up for him. It is really very simple to use. If I can set it up and operate it than I'm sure you would no problem doing the same Jude!

I still have a flatbed scanner for my desktop. My parents have a 4 in 1 and it has worked pretty well for them. My uncle had one but his only lasted a year. I think read a lot of reviews on them before purchasing.

I have the 4 in 1 and I love it. It is very easy to use and takes up far less room. I understand not wanting to duplicate what you already have though. Good luck!

Honestly, a lot of the multiple-in-1s I've used have been total ****. I'd rather pay more for a separate printer and scanner. If one dies, then it won't take everything down with it.

I'd definitely go buy just a scanner again. :)

I don't have one but would eventually like to get one. I'd pick a separate scanner they're not cheap though.

Well I got the Visioneer 7400 Onetouch Photo Scanner.....and I'm very itimidated by it. I guess I'm too impatient by anything I'm not used to. The software is different from what I using with the Mustek. My g/f is coming to visit on the 17th, so hopefully she can figure what I'm doing wrong. I feel so stupid!! :(
