View Full Version : A Very Brady Talk Show...Susan Olsen and TV Siblings Planning A Talk Show!

We have Al Roker to thank for this one. After Brady Bunch kid Susan Olsen guested on Al’s satellite radio show and he suggested it would be fun to see the Bradys gossiping over brunch, the youngest one in curls ended up organizing exactly that with former TV sibs Barry Williams, Chris Knight, Mike Lookinland and Maureen McCormick. The mimosas must have been flowing big time, because the fivesome (minus anti-Brady Eve Plumb) cooked up a pitch for their own View—like talk show which they are now shopping to producers.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s a brilliant idea with our different points of view, but it would be a very expensive show to do with five hosts,” suspects Susan, 48. “Maureen’s idea is to call (the talker) The Brady Brunch, but I prefer it to be a late night show.” Uh-oh, dissention already!

In honor of the 40th anniversary on The Brady Bunch’s Sept. 26, 1969 debut, Susan is out with a new coffee table book, Love to Love You Bradys: The Bizarre Story of The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, which reveals that ‘fake Jan’ Geri Reischl (Eve’s replacement on that 1977 clunker) gave “a happy ending” to a producer. Yikes!

Guess with all those previous Brady tell-all tomes, ya gotta take whatever scandalous scraps are left. Cousin Oliver – watch out; they’ll be exposing you next!

TV Land's Brady Bunch marathon continues through Saturday Sept. 26.

Hey, I'd watch it!! Put Geri in to make it 6 - she seems to appreciate being a Brady a lot more than Eve.

The Brady Bunch, the show that just won't die! Hey maybe they can use the talk show format to help patch things up between Maureen and Eve.

Yeah, but I doubt Eve will take the bait. What DID make Eve so bitter, anyway? The rest of the Brady kids seem so nice.

Yeah Eve probably wouldn't appear. I think Eve is bitter because Maureen's character had a lot of boyfriends and all Jan had was the imaginary "George Glass" !

Eve got offended by what Maureen wrote in her book about the two of them having a lesbian affair. I think Maureen was kidding, but Eve took exception to it.

No, Eve was bitter about the show WAY before that. ohno:

Hmmm, maybe the Variety show left a bad taste in her mouth? ;)

Maureen mentioned a kiss on . . .gulp . . . a talk show years ago. That's probably when Eve got offended.

A Brady talk show with fake Jan Jeri would be a hoot. Imgaine if they did it in character

There is nothing in Maureen's book to suggest anything happened between Eve and herself. Yes, her and Barry almost got it on a few times. Maureen also confesses to having had two abortions, which really SHOCKED me.

The situation between her dad and her brother Kevin is very disturbing and sad.

I think a talk show is a very lively idea...as long it is a lighthearted pop kitschy affair. Sorry, Susan, but the idea of late night conjures more "adult" subject matter and I think we have had enough of that with the Brady porn spoof!

Yeah, I think it would be fun if it was pop-culture, family-friendly fare. They could have other former child stars as guests, etc. That would be awesome! :D

One of my favorite child stars is Lauri Hendler who played Julie from "Gimme a Break!". She, like Eve Plumb played a teenager who wore glasses and suffered from middle-sister syndrome. I think that she would be an excelent guest on the show!

I concur. Laurie would make an excellent guest on this show!

I asked Geri if she heard about it and if she would do the show if approached.

I'll let you know if I get a response (or Monika will).....a few of us have connections

Maybe they could reunite Fake Jan (Geri), Fake Cindy (Jennifer Runyon) and Fake Marcia (Leah Ayers).

I wonder if anyone is thinking to pitch this idea to TVLand. This would be perfect for them, then they could dump all these shows that have nothing to do with Retro TV, and get back to their original premise. I can see this bringing back the TVLand audience that have deserted it.

If this show materializes I would love to see some of the former guest actors from The Brady Bunch on it.
I once emailed the woman who played "Molly" and she was so nice, really great in replying. Even some of the original adult guest stars are still with us, like Marion Ross and Joe Namath, and would be nice to have on.

While we are on the topic of former guest stars on the series, let us give honorable mention to Chirstine Baranski! My all-time favorite movie is "Marci X". I thought that Christine did an excellent job of playing the part of a babe who people love to hate! Another time that I really thought that she outdid herself with in the "Mamma Mia!" movie! In one of her song and dance renditions, she wore a pair of dress boots that I thought were to die for! In my opinion, Christine is second only to Hazel Shermet in terms of looking hot as an older woman! Mentioning Hazel brings us to yet another side-issue regarding the "Brady Bunch". Her late husband Larry Rhine was very involved in producing and directing this sereis. I am not sure is Hazel is still alive, but if she is, she would be close to 90 years old. If she is still able bodied enough, maybe she could appear and tell us what it was like being married to someone involved with this show. If she is unable to, maybe one of her two children can go in her place. Any thoughts anyone?

I'm guessing here, but I think part of Eve's disdain for the BB might be because in the late seventies, she began to get some career heat after starring in a TV movie called Dawn: Portrait Of A Teenage Runaway.

The movie was a ratings success and critically acclaimed. So much so that Eve (wisely) declined The Brady Bunch Hour in 1977.

However, that success didn't lead to much else and Eve participated in every Brady reunion starting with The Brady Brides. I think Eve did those strictly for money, but hated the fact she had to do so.

Again, just speculation on my part.

That sounds totally logical. After the Dawn movies, she did a couple of other roles in some TV movies and episodics that pretty much went nowhere. So she had no choice but to take the $$$$ and do the rest of the BB reunions. At least Geri Reischl is proud and enthusiastic about her brief Brady association - I think Eve could be nicer to the fans and appreciate them. I mean, she should know by now that she will NEVER live down the fact that she was Jan Brady. She might as well make the best of it!!

From what I understand, Geri Reischl has fun with the fact that she was and will forever be "Fake Jan." She accepts it and appears to be proud of her brief and infamous Brady association. :D

I would want to know about Eve Plumb - The person who posted about Eve and her role as Dawn is right. She seemed to have a little success then WHAM her career kind've vanished.

Next I would like to know about Mom Brady - Why did she get so mad at Christopher Knight and his wife?

Third I would want to know about Barry Williams and his ex wives.

Eve has pretty much put acting on the backburner for her painting and ceramics. She is a very talented artist - you can see her work here:

I just saw Eve in the 1978 version of Little Women (now on DVD) and she did a great job as Beth March. The other sisters were played by Susan Dey (Jo), Meredith Baxter (Meg) and Ann Dusenberry (Amy). It was pretty interesting to see a Brady and a Partridge playing siblings, as well as Elyse Keaton. Ann Dusenberry would play Lucille Ball's daughter on the ill-fated 1986 Life With Lucy, and in this movie bears a striking resemblance to Kirsten Dunst, who would go on to play Amy in the 1994 adaptation of LW.

The closest Susan Dey came to anything remotely connected to The Partridge Family, since the show ended, is the SNL skit they did of TPF/Brady Bunch in the late '80's where she spoofed herself.

I thought that aired in 1991 or '92 (around the same time she left LA Law) but I could be wrong.
